Position Information
There are several locations within the Cobb County Sheriff's Office that the Criminal Justice Specialist is assigned. This position requires shift work depending on the area assigned. Consideration for education and experience will be given for starting salary.
The work schedule for each location is listed below :
Adult Detention Center : 12 hour shifts, 0600-1800 hours or 1800 hours to 0600 hours. If working 1800 -0600 hours, $1.00 per hour extra is given for shift differential. $1.30 per hour extra Detention Pay is given for working at the ADC location. These positions work a varied off day assignment.
Warrant Room : 8 or 10 hour shift depending on assigned shift. There are 3 shifts for this work location, Day, Evening and overnight. Evening shift differential pay is .50 extra per hour, overnight shift differential pay is $1.00 extra per hour. These positions work a varied off day assignment.
Court Security : 8 hour shifts typically Monday through Friday with hours ranging from 0600-1900 hours.
Depending on area of assignment, incumbents in this classification have direct contact with inmates.

Essential Functions
Ensures the security and safety of the inmates : ensures that inmates are not injured by themselves or by other inmates; responds to alarms; and provides inmates with information regarding charges, bonding, attorneys, and personal interactions.
Staffs and operates security control rooms, providing monitoring of both inmates and security / fire control systems controls all movement within monitored area and ensured that inmates are safely & securely maintained.
Maintains accurate counts of detainees; maintains complete records and ensures that current information on detainees is entered into the Records Management System.
Performs intake and receipt of inmate property; inventories detainee property, compiles with booking, release orders and procedures. Coordinate visitation for detainees, medical, attorneys or religious services.
Operates Security Electronics System, intercom, radio equipment, computer terminal, telephone and Key control systems.
Ensures the security and safety of facility staff and visitors : monitors visitor access to facilities and conducts searches for contraband materials; and escorts visitors within the facility.
Secures facility keys, receives status and incident reports and special instructions from other personnel.
Inspects incoming mail and packages for contraband and often non-permitted items; delivers, packages, mail and items to detainees.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; with two years of experience in administrative support experience preferred, demonstrated with computer literacy skills in standard software applications.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License; maintain GCIC certification.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Performance of essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, odors, or airborne particles, excessive noise, communicable disease and confrontational persons.
