Therapeutic Recreation is a profession where several activities are used to increase the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning of individuals and to enhance functional independent life skills. The PARKS Department is searching for an individual with extensive experience working with individuals with various abilities, in planning, implementing, and evaluating various recreational activities from sports and arts and crafts to special events, dances, and community reintegration outings.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Coordinates daily work activities: organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; creates and distributes staff schedules; ensures adequate staffing for programs and events; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff; assists with complex/problem situations; provides technical expertise; and trains staff in operational policies and procedures.
Plans, implements, and coordinates diversified recreation and sports programs for assigned facilities: develops program services and activities; schedules classes, leagues, events and programs; reserves facilities and schedules grounds use; coordinates and supervises instructors, staff, and volunteers; provides information and direction as needed; processes participant registrations; and manages programs in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines.
Coordinates facility and grounds use: maintains master calendar; schedules facility rentals; prepares for scheduled events; sets-up meeting rooms; decorates for special events; and maintains related documentation.
Assists in developing and implementing budget for assigned facility or program: monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget; assists in obtaining and monitoring use of granted funds; maintains inventories of supplies and forms; ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; prepares and submits purchase orders; and receives/distributes incoming supply shipments.
Coordinates and performs public relations for assigned facility or program: provides information and answers questions; develops brochures, flyers, newsletters, calendars, and news releases; promotes the activities and programs to civic groups, community organization, schools, the public or other individuals and groups; and prepares and makes presentations regarding services and activities offered.
Communicates with department administration, County employees, sports associations, the public, and other individuals and organizations as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; participates in various committees; attends meetings; and provides information and input regarding facility and program activities, services, and needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Parks & Recreation, or related field required; supplemented by two years of experience in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Recreation Therapist (CTRS), preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.If assigned to Parks and Recreation: Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
