What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recycling Coordinator position at Cobb County Government?
Coordinates operating process of recyclable items from drop-off sites and events including the countywide HHW (Household Hazardous Waste) events.
Sets recycling plans, goals and initiatives in the community to minimize waste, and encourage program participation and compliance.
Plans educational programs and activities; researches and develops curricula and presentations; prepares activities and materials; secures locations and dates for programs; coordinates and schedules programs with participants; and sets-up for programs.
Delivers educational programs: conducts training and programs for students, teachers, volunteer groups, neighborhood and community organizations, businesses, other County staff, and the general public; facilitates tours, workshops, contests, and special events; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; and responds to inquiries and follow-up questions related to recycling topics.
Supervises and trains staff, community service workers and other recycling operations. Manages volunteer programs: recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers; schedules and coordinates environmental recycling activities and service projects; ensures subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex and problem situations and provide technical expertise; and maintains required documentation.
Collaborates with other agencies and community groups to plan and implement programs: works with schools, libraries, other County departments, volunteer organizations and other agencies to develop recycling educational programs for their target audiences; attends meetings; makes presentations; and participates in various boards and committees.
Develops and disseminates promotional materials: creates, updates, and produces brochures, website information, social media information, fliers, newsletters, etc.; researches, writes, and edits articles, video scripts, fact sheets, calendars, and other materials; and attends public events and meetings to promote recycling programs.
Tracks and evaluates programs in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations; compiles data related to program participation, costs, and effectiveness; enters and updates information into department database; conducts surveys to collect participant feedback; and prepares related reports.
Enforces established safety precautions, policies, procedures, and regulations of the area of assignment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability or Public Administration, or related field required; supplemented by three years of experience as a Certified Recycling Professional or familiarity with the state’s Department of Environmental Protection regulations, waste/recycling, and municipal ordinances; or in environmental education and community outreach; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor degree or higher and 5-10 years of experience managing recycling programs for large communities.
Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, and water hazards.
