What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Planner position at Cobb County Government?
The Planner I position will support the CobbLinc Transit System and work directly with the DOT’s Transit Division. The service and amenities planning responsibilities will include:
Leading the development of the transit amenities program and associated policies and procedures;
Leading the ongoing analysis of the operational health of transit routes to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement according to federal and transit industry standards and guidelines;
Directing and making recommendations for the refinement of the system’s service standards;
Addressing issues related to existing transit amenities;
Conducting field evaluations in response to immediate needs and/or preventative measures;
Aiding in plan reviews associated with their impact on existing and future transit amenities and services;
Working closely with other team members and departments regarding the state of good repair for the system’s transit amenities, using GIS and/or other inventorying applications and platforms;
Having familiarity with data analysis and outputs related to GTFS feeds, GIS, and the National Transit Database (NTD);
Participating in meetings and public hearings as required to provide support, gather feedback, and present findings on transit-related projects or initiatives;
Assisting in preparing technical reports, including general status reports on amenities and service needs, and operational assessments for proposed service changes.
The Planner I experience should reflect an interest in public transportation or transportation planning, either through the pursuit of AICP accreditation, participation, or affiliation with planning or transportation industry organizations.
Responds to requests for information related to planning services and assists in conducting plan reviews: intakes, reviews and makes recommendations for petitions for rezoning, modifications of zoning, use permits, variances, subdivision plat approval, floodplain related development activity, and/or other planning related activities as assigned.
Participates in defined segments of planning projects; conducts research; prepares specifications and plans for assigned projects.
Collects, tabulates, and stores planning data: compiles, maintains and updates planning operational data; researches and analyzes statistical data for use in planning activities; identifies trends and problems; recommends appropriate actions; provides requested information to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public; generates summary reports; makes presentations; and updates and maintains related databases.
Manages planning review and compliance for land disturbance permit plans: manages as-built acceptance and review; reviews floodplain, stream buffer, and river corridor plans for environmental compliance and approval; and responds to customer inquiries about environmental laws and regulations, and all other development regulations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Regional Planning, Political Science, Geosciences, Geography, Public Administration, Landscape Architecture, or related field required; supplemented by one year of experience in planning, zoning or related field, or an internship in a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
