Job Summary
Operations Superintendent is responsible for producing high-quality drinking water by monitoring the water treatment process in accordance with Federal, State and Authority standards as well as maintaining distribution water levels and pressures as system demand dictates. Directs and supervises daily operation of the Plant Operations Department. Reports to and works closely with Division Manager and Assistant Division Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Schedules crews, supervises work and recommends training needs. Monitors plant expenses and assists in developing budget for operating expenses and maintaining Operations Division.
- Directs the activities of all water treatment operators.
- Maintains necessary chemical and material inventories.
- Assists Division Manager in maintaining current SOP.
- Sets treatment goals with management and engineering.
- Coordinates required maintenance with Maintenance Superintendent.
- Reviews employee time records.
- Responds to Emergency calls 24 hours.
- Manages shift operations staff.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance of operators; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities)
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in direct plant operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Need mechanical aptitude and should be competent in basic math, chemistry and biology and have a working knowledge of algebra and geometry.
- Must have the ability to apply data to formulas of treatment requirements.
- Class I Surface Water Certification required.
- Requires Georgia Driver’s License with a good driving record and must maintain a good driving record to be allowed to continue employment with the Authority.
