Cobb EMC is currently recruiting for an Equipment Operator I to safely and efficiently operate and maintain motor vehicles and line construction equipment and to train in heavy equipment operation. Responsibilities
Major Areas of Responsibility
The items listed are major responsibilities of this position. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the reporting authority.
Safety & Corporate Standards:

- Complete all assigned work in a safe and accurate, timely, and efficient manner
- Effectively meet job qualification standards as required by OSHA

- Operate all vehicles and assigned equipment in accordance with operator’s manuals and state and local laws
Vehicle & Equipment Operation:
- Operate vehicles and equipment, including line truck and underground equipment
- Efficiently load and unload transformers, poles, and other materials, as required
- Set poles, transformers, switch gear, and regulators
- Assist all personnel by assembling materials, digging holes, framing poles, hooking up underground transformers, assembling potheads, splicing, installing anchors and guys, and performing all other ground work, as required
- Aid in construction and maintenance of the distribution system to ensure a safe and effective operation.
- Perform switching and operating of apparatus with approved insulated hot sticks while under the direct supervision of a first class lineman or foreman as required
Other Operations Duties:
- Visually check lines, poles, insulators, transformers, service entrances, rights-of-way, etc. for damages or unsafe conditions and report same to immediate supervisor
- Cut right-of-way and perform landscaping, concrete, and asphalt repairs, as required
- Effectively install conduits and encased concrete duct systems
- Inspect, service, and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment daily
- Advise immediate supervisor of maintenance needs on tools, vehicles, and other equipment
- Assist in handling emergencies and outages, as directed
Qualifications
Please Note: Due to mandated safety requirements, anyone who operates weight-restricted aerial lifts (e.g. a bucket truck) and who must use retrieval systems during the performance of their tasks must maintain a weight of 340 pounds or less – fully dressed, including work boots. Operating these pieces of equipment is an essential function of the job.
If you are over this weight limit you will not be eligible to participate in the recruitment process and cannot be considered for this position.
A weigh-in will take place during the skills demonstration assessment.
Minimum Qualifications
High School or equivalent Minimum of six months work experience as an entry lineman, equipment operator or equivalent experience.
Ability to gain knowledge on operation, use, care, and maintenance of power digging and pole setting. Equipment and hydraulically operated take-off and other types of heavy trucks and equipment.
Ability to rapidly acquire basic knowledge of corporate procedures, first aid, and safety rules and regulations
Ability to develop thorough knowledge and skill within each of the specified steps of equipment operator progression
Ability to gain knowledge and understanding of underground utility installation of direct bury and directional boring equipment.
Ability to gain knowledge of overhead distribution construction including the various types of crane operations.
Ability to gain knowledge of Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) regulations
Required Skills:
Ability to develop high degree of skill in operating heavy work equipment
Possess valid Class A Commercial Georgia driver's license and relevant endorsements
Obtain valid Georgia Flagging Certification after course completion
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous utility industry experience
One (1) year Horizontal Directional Drilling working experience

Working Relationships:
INTERNAL:
Receive direction, instruction, and approvals from immediate supervisor
Receive work direction, training, and guidance from Foreman and First-Class Lineman
Provide support and assistance to line crew
EXTERNAL:
Effectively serve all customers to achieve increased customer and public support of the Corporation
