Overview

Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for a System Planning & Protection Engineer to perform Cobb EMC’s power distribution system protection analysis, calculations, and coordination of protective relays, ensuring correct and safe operation of all protective relays, and optimizing the distribution system for maintaining higher power quality, efficiency, and reliability standards.

 

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

 

System Protection and Coordination

  • Ensure all the time current curves (TCC) for protection schemes are correct and effective.
  • Ability to establish a process for effective management and delivery of SEL relay programming.
  • Assist in performing arc flash study in a timely manner.
  • Assist Power Quality Engineer to analyze power quality challenges.
  • Prepare HMI displays for substations and Distribution Automation controls
  • Assist in the configuration of SCADA RTUs, RTACs and other SCADA interfacing Intelligent Electronics Devices (IEDs).
  • Assist Relay and Automation Engineer in programming protection relays, regulator panels, TEAM Server, Automation Controller, and RTAC.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system coordination issues.
  • Download and analyze event reports from various intelligent electronic devices.

System Planning

  • Assist in performing load flow studies based on summer and winter peak loads.
  • Assist in developing short- and long-range construction work plans.
  • Perform distribution analysis to optimize the distribution system to minimize line losses and outage time.
  • Perform voltage regulation studies per feeder for resistive and reactive compensation.
  • Keep distribution system model up to date by importing feeders from GIS.
  • Maintain effective load growth records by feeder for load forecasting.
  • Coordinate with system engineer and GTC for future substation planning.
  • Assist in developing construction workplans.

System Reliability

  • Assist in setting up reliability goals.
  • Prepare and publish correct reliability monthly reports.
  • Identify worse performing feeders and devices.
  • Recommend proper placement of smart switches on distribution system to improve reliability.
  • Recommend and coordinate with engineering & power control teams to implement preventive measures to improve reliability.
  • Assist in benchmarking studies for reliability.
  • Assist power control in developing outage analysis reports.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering.

Minimum two years of power distribution system design experience in configuring the sectionalizing and protection schemes.

Demonstrated knowledge of setting up time current curves in software such as CYMTCC, ETAP, MILSOFT, etc.

Knowledge of electrical engineering design, practices, specifications, and safety requirements as found in NEC and NESC.

Knowledge of GIS and Auto-Cad systems

Ability to adapt to priority changes, new procedures, and guidelines as defined by management.

Ability to develop productive professional relationships, both internal and external.

Strong cognitive, logic, judgment, and organizational skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent project management skills.

Obtain an Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Access Only Certificate within one year of hire/promotion.

Obtain E.I.T (F.E.) within two years of hire/promotion.

Obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification within four years of hire/promotion.

Possess valid Georgia driver’s license.
