Location: Kentucky Hatchery, Monticello, KY
Schedule: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, 1st or 2nd shift hours, depending on work assignment. Days may change when covering for vacations, leave of absence, etc.
Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.
Position Summary:
- This position is responsible for covering Processing, Sanitation and Egg Room positions whenever needed. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Processing: Grades approximately 60,000 chicks. Operates robot to vaccinate and beak trim approximately 2,000 chicks per hour, per customer order.
Performs toe trim on approximately 8,000 chicks for identification purposes if required.
Stack and move approximately 600 boxes of processed chicks.
Performs dubbing on combs and dotting heads on approximately 8,000 chicks for identification purposes (25%).
- Egg Trayer: Must be able to read, write and perform simple math to assist Shipping Clerk with preparing international egg shipments. Transfers up to 100 or more cases of eggs from a pallet and stack up to approximately 5 feet high onto another pallet and label cases. Assist Shipping Clerk with preparing domestic egg shipment and moves approximately 25-50 farm buggies full of eggs on/off the egg truck and into proper place within the Egg Room daily. Assist with egg sets and inventory of eggs and buggies and moves setters buggies to the proper place. Keeps hatching eggs separated by flock and line type. Maintain a clean and organized work area (25%).
- Sanitation: Washes and sanitizes 26 setter buggies using a pressure washer. Place approximately 2,520 egg flats weighing 506 grams into a washer to be washed and sanitized. Washes and sanitizes approximately 42 farm buggies using pressure washer. Place approximately 1,500 chick boxes weighing an average of 2 pounds into washer to be washed and sanitized. Dumping cull eggs, pulling empty farm and setter buggies to the Egg Room and washing and sanitizing both sides of the pull room and the dirty side box room with pressure washer. Cleans and sanitizes the hatchery with a pressure washer. Washes troughs on Wednesday and Thursday with a water hose. Washes and sanitizes the dirty side box room with a pressure washer. Cleans and sanitizes the hatchery with a pressure washer. Washes and sanitizes the dirty side box room with a pressure washer. Set eggs in setters and inspect chicks in hatchers. Cleans and sanitizes the hatchers and hallways with a pressure washer Cleans and sanitizes the holding room, box room and approximately 200 dollies weighing up to approximately 5 pounds. Pull approximately 42 buggies of empty hatcher trays weighing approximately 150 pounds back to the hatcher rooms. Reads setters and hatchers every three hours. Pulls out approximately 36 stacks of 40 chick boxes for the Pull Crew (25%).
Other Duties, Responsibilities and Activities
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Janitor - Maintains offices, breakroom, restrooms and showers, including floors, walls, windows and dusting/cleaning shelves and desks, in order to ensure everything is kept in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. Launder towels and clothes to maintain an adequate supply for up to 45 employees. Read temperatures and turn-failures in setters and read temperature and humidity in incubators, every three hours, help wash and foam rooms using a high-pressure hose and regular water hose, pull loaded setter buggies on casters weighing approximately 700-1300 pounds, maintain boot washes and hand sanitizer, operate box washer, maintain a clean and organized work area. Properly euthanize weak/ill chicks in accordance with company policy.
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety
- The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 12 pounds and will regularly be required to push or pull stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds. Will regularly be required to pull/push 700 to 1300 pounds (wheeled dolly). Must be able to obtain scissor lift certification. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey with supervisors, as well as, convey opinions and concerns. Tools and Equipment: N/A
- Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
- Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. Safety glasses are required.
- Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants and foamers.
- Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks. Safety: Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety policies. Team members are expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.
