Location: Tennessee Hatchery, Lafayette, TN
Schedule: Sunday - Friday
Hours: Sunday 6:00am-10:00am, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:00am-2:00pm, Tuesday 5:30am-1:30pm, Friday 5:30am-9:30am or until job complete. This position averages 40-45 hours per week and includes working holidays. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.
Position Summary
- This position is responsible for assisting as the backup for pre-pull, the inspection of chicks in hatcher trays to ascertain chick numbers and vent temperatures to determine chick readiness, traying and receiving eggs, data entry, inventory, and general sanitation.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience: 6 months in related experience preferred. Experience with Excel preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Check number of chicks in top tray of each stack of chicks, take the vent temperature of one chick in each tray counted and document the results. (10%)
- Places eggs in properly labeled buggies. (30%)
- Performs proper inventory practices. (20%)
- Clean, foams and sanitize egg rooms. (15%)
- Assists egg truck drivers during deliveries. (15%)
Other duties, responsibilities and activities
- These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: operate a high pressure and regular water hose, provide drivers with farm buggies, weigh new flock eggs, enter egg inventory when necessary, gather information for egg grade report and egg marking report, maintains a clean and organized work area. (10%)
Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety:
- The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly pull empty farm and setter buggies on casters weighing approximately 200 pounds. Must regularly push/pull setter buggies on casters weighing up to 700-1300 pounds. Must occasionally lift chick boxes weighing approximately 15 pounds. Must be able to regularly bend, stoop and reach above head. Must be able to obtain scissor lift certification. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit;use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns.
- Tools and Equipment: Farm and setter buggies, pallet jack, foamer, high pressure, water hose, floor scrubber, scale and thermometer.
- Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
- Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, face shield, chemical/rubber gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs and NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. Safety glasses are required.
- Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants and foamers.
- Safety: Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety policies. Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include, but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
