Under limited supervision, assists the pharmacist by filling physician orders for medications for oral, rectal, topical and injectable use; mixes IV admixture solutions as required using aseptic technique in the Laminar Air Flow hood; types labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties. Adheres to the principals, philosophy and mission of Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in all aspects of job performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.
- Assists in filling prescriptions.
- Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges and either enters them into the computer or forwards them to Data Processing.
- Aids in the training of Pharmacy technician students or new employees.
- Prepares select reports and MARs.
- Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
- Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities.
- Assists the pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Must be able to identify and understand that there are dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and know to consult with the pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise.
- Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner.
- Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.
- Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations.
- Demonstrates ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
- Demonstrates ability to deal with problems involving several variables in particular situations. Recognizes inappropriate dosing based in available dosage forms for various age groups.
- Exhibits knowledge/ understanding of Safety, Infection Control and Employee Health policies and procedures.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Actively participates in effective guest relations through courteous communications with all hospital contacts; presents a positive image of the institution in all contacts both inside and outside the hospital.
- Has working knowledge of department's budget and cost of supplies.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or the equivalent.
- One-year related pharmacy experience and/or training or graduate of certified training program/healthcare careers college.
- Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education, experience or subsequent training.
- Appropriate certificates or licenses required for the position.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer knowledge and knowledge of automated pharmacy systems
- IV Laminar Flow Hood - or willingness to learn
