Position Summary: The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for providing quality foundational skills and high school equivalency instruction, and or other classes to students enrolled in the Adult Education Program and for performing instruction-related duties including student attendance, assessment, persistence activities, and follow-up in accordance with the mission of the department. Part-time instructors are also required to participate in professional learning activities and maintain adult education certification with the Arizona Department of Education. Instruction is provided via a variety of media, including face-to-face courses, blended learning, and online throughout Cochise County and our entire services area.Essential Functions: As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position: Teaches high school equivalency classes in math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) in a college and career context to students enrolled in the Adult Education Program and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom, lab or online environment Develops, prepares and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses and plans for students' educational and social needs Uses a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of learners Selects and uses a variety of resources to facilitate learning including technology, professional/technical instructional materials, and everyday print materials including those that are specific to the program Integrates the use of technology into instruction Collaborates with other instructors in assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement Maintains student files, statistics, and/or other information pertinent to the program Resolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the Adult Education Program Director Performs other related duties as assigned General Expectations: Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Work Environment: Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office, classroom or laboratory setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel, evening, and weekend work may be required. Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
