Position Summary
This is a Federal Work Study (FWS) position and applicants must be eligible for the FWS program to qualify. The Financial Aid Office can help determine eligibility.
Position Summary : The Student Off-Campus Literacy Tutor is responsible for working varied hours in a local K-12 classroom or public library, tutoring select students in the areas of reading, writing, and / or math, and assisting classroom teachers with other activities as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities : Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position :
Tutors and facilitates one-on-one sessions and study groups
Offers critical feedback on reading, writing and / or math assignments
Answers grammar, usage, punctuation and reading questions
Assists students with vocabulary and reading comprehension questions
Helps students clarify assignments and other material
Participates in workshops and orientations
Attends training sessions held for student staff
Assists lead teacher with general classroom duties
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience Requirements :
Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer
Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher
For reading or writing tutor position : Completion of ENG 101 with a grade of "B" or better, preferred
For math tutor position : Completion of Math 142 or 151, with a grade of "B" or better, preferred
Current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain, as required by the community host organization

Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures

Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work Environment : Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.
Physical Requirements : Essential functions of this position require : lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
Sedentary Work : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met
Mental Application : Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem solving skills are important
