NATURE OF WORK: Under limited supervision of the Board of Supervisors through the County Administrator, performs work of considerable difficulty to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control all activities of the Elections Department; ensures compliance with statutory and regulatory federal and state requirements; responsible for fraud prevention, detection, and deterrence; performs other related duties as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only) Plans, executes and finalizes election projects according to strict deadlines within an election cycle; effectively prioritizes and executes tasks while problem-solving in a high-pressure environment; establishes and maintains the election calendar; ensures quality control of all aspects of elections from ballot production through tabulation of results and public announcements; ensures the validity of timely election results; monitors election system programming, data management, security and testing of electronic election systems to ensure accuracy of results; coordinates with the Recorder’s Office, state, cities and towns, special districts and school districts for election ballot information and for proofing ballots; accepts candidate filings, calculates signature requirements and ensures campaign finance filings; coordinates the efforts of department members, paid volunteers and temporary staff; manages the recruitment and training of poll workers; manages nomination, recall, initiative and referendum processes; represents the Elections Department and county in election-related court cases as required; performs all aspects of supervision of department employees and volunteers.
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business management or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education; and five (5) years of management experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain an Election Officer’s Certificate issued by the Arizona Secretary of State before January 1 of each general election year, pursuant to A.R.S. 16-407. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by County insurance.
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office or warehouse setting with appropriate climate controls in a secure environment under camera, at times subject to public view. Travel throughout the county is required. Working evenings and weekends is required during election cycles.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity, large motor skills, ability to communicate.
Medium to Heavy work: Exerting 50 – 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly and can be for extending periods, incumbents may be required to continuously lift, carry, carry up and down stairs, lift overhead, push, or pull 20-30 pounds. Ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist is required. Occasionally pushing/pulling materials up to 100 pounds with the use of assistive equipment. Vision sufficient to read small print and computer screens.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details and verbal instructions, requires emotional stability, critical thinking and adaptability; creative problem-solving skills.
