Minimum Qualifications
LEVEL I - HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC TRAINEE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of mechanical maintenance work experience, diesel experience and/or construction equipment repair; OR, any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid driver’s license; if hired from out of state, must obtain an Arizona driver's license within 30 calendar days of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
Employee must provide own basic beginners hand tools.
LEVEL II - HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC APPRENTICE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years of related heavy-duty truck and/or road maintenance equipment maintenance and repair experience; OR any equivalent combination of accredited education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid driver’s license; if hired from out of state, must obtain an Arizona driver's license within 30 calendar days of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
Must obtain a valid Arizona Class “A” Commercial Driver's License within one year of hire and maintain throughout employment. Must pass internal Public Works equipment operation test conducted to hold an Operator position within one year of hire.
LEVEL III - HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of heavy-duty truck and/or road maintenance equipment maintenance and repair experience; OR any equivalent combination of accredited education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid driver’s license; if hired from out of state, must obtain an Arizona driver's license within 30 calendar days of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.

Six years of mechanical and/or welding/fabrication experience; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates High School Diploma/GED and 6) years of heavy-duty truck and/or road maintenance equipment maintenance and repair experience; OR any equivalent combination of accredited education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
