The Coconino County Finance Department is looking for a Senior Grants Accountant to join their Accounting and Audit team. This individual performs technical grant and governmental accounting work of considerable difficulty. Responsibilities include preparation of grant reports, reconciliations, and providing oversight and advisement on federal award compliance. The Senior Grants Accountant collaborates with and supports other departments with grant management. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting field and three years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR,
Associate's degree in accounting field and four years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting; OR,
Five years progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or budgeting

Technical accounting knowledge and training
The ideal candidate enjoys accounting and reconciling, and is familiar with federal grant accounting and possesses knowledge of 2 CFR Part 200 Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards. The candidate will be motivated to learn the complex requirements of individual grant programs and enthusiastically provide support and guidance to County departments and staff administering them.
Previous SEFA and grant administration preferred.

Typical Duties

- Serves as key staff on the County’s single audit and supports the departments and programs in audit processes
- Assists in the preparation of the County's annual audited financial statements, including the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA)
- Reviews financial reports prepared by department staff for accuracy and compliance with governmental accounting and federal award principles
- Assists departments with questions regarding grant guidelines, financial reporting, budgeting, federal and state laws, regulations, and County policies and procedures
- Builds and maintain positive working relationships with staff across the County
- Prepares, reviews, evaluates and approves adjustments to the County's financial records
- Monitors and analyzes the integrity of the County's financial records, and tracks corrections and adjustments as needed
- Assists, trains and provides guidance to Business Managers regarding appropriate accounting practices and use of the County's financial system
- Administers internal control policies and procedural guidelines and assists in their development
- Advises Accounting Manager and on significant accounting issues
- May supervise staff
