Coconino County is seeking a creative, collaborative, and innovative professional to serve as the next Initiatives Director.
Under general direction, oversees the coordination, development and implementation of County-wide projects from the County Manager’s Office; performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Duties

- Manages County special, county-wide projects including developing and maintaining project timelines, conducts research, performs analysis, procures reports, and provides recommendations
- Identify and assess potential strategic initiatives, projects, and partnership that align with the organization’s strategic goals
- Provides support and guidance to County leadership regarding the management and coordination of strategic initiatives and special projects including interagency projects
- Provides direction and support in an emergency including working in the Emergency Operations Center/Joint Information Center and supporting the County Manager’s Office, Communications, Governmental Affairs, and policy group
- Works with County Management, Board of Supervisors, Elected Officials, Department Directors and community partners to move complex and strategic projects forward
- Develops and executes initiatives contributing to the goals of the County
- Ensures projects are aligned with overalls strategic goals and objectives of the organization
- Oversee project implementations related to project management, including monitoring and reporting, financial transactions, execution of project plans and performance
- Ensures projects deliver specified results and meet quality expectations
- Prepares communications, remarks, updates, reports, presentations, and meeting materials for County leadership in collaboration with the Communications and Government Affairs Teams
- Creates and manages project budgets
- Identifies and mitigates project risk to avoid delays and cost overruns
- Makes presentations to the County Board of Supervisors
- Represents Deputy County Manager in their absence
- May Hire, supervise, evaluate and discipline staff
- May develop, evaluate, and revise policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to driving; sitting; working with and around others; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer work; vision acuity (near) for routine office and customer service duties; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity for typing and paperwork.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field and five years progressively responsible administrative or supervisory experience in a political/governmental environment; or any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Additional Requirements: Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships county officials, elected officials, co-workers, stakeholders, representatives from other agencies, and the general public. The ideal candidate will possess initiative, follow through and political acumen. The candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to convene partners, facilitate diverse groups, and strategically identify linkages to implement innovative efficiencies.
This is an At- Will position and is safety sensitive. This position is exempt from overtime.
