What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds and Landscape Assistant - Parks and Recreation (0425) position at Coconino County?
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance of County parks and open space properties including, but not limited to, general maintenance and care of park landscapes, gardens, lawns, grounds, etc.; acts as a helper for a craftsman or skilled trades worker; may operate a variety of hand and power tools; carries out park cleaning and other duties as assigned.

- Performs manual labor
- Cleans and maintains County facilities and parks
- Identifies and reports needed repairs
- Performs grounds maintenance, including weeding, mowing, landscaping, graffiti removal, painting, and trash removal
- May perform minor repairs
- May assist with special events
Essential functions of this position include: driving; lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds when loading and unloading trucks; team lifting up to 100 pounds; working with and around other staff and the public. This position works outside most of the time.
Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year motor vehicle report.
The ideal candidate is able to work weekends and holidays; has experience with lawn care maintenance; experience with lawn care equipment use (lawn mower, weed whacker, etc.); experience with landscaping work.Preferred Qualifications: Experience with irrigation systems; minimum of two years of lawn care maintenance; minimum of two years lawn care equipment use; experience in identification of invasive and non-native weeds.
This position is safety sensitive.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
Considerable knowledge of:- Basic park and facility maintenance and custodial practices
- Operation of power and manual tools
- Operation of light landscaping and maintenance equipment, including weed trimmers and backpack blowers
- Operations of custodial equipment
- Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in park and facility custodial and maintenance work, including but not limited to weeding, trash removal, graffiti removal, painting, restroom cleaning, and minor repairs
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions for storing and handling hazardous material
- Work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Work extended hours out of doors in varying weather conditions
- Perform heavy manual labor
- Effectively handle lifting objects weighing up to 60 pounds
- Operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
