Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty assisting attorneys in case preparation; conducts sensitive physical/sexual abuse interviews and performs related work as assigned.

PLEASE NOTE:

This Temporary On Call position is approximately four hours per week.

(Illustrative Only)
• Interviews victims of abuse (physical and/or sexual) in accordance with current best practices
• Conduct developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive interviews of children
• Video tapes clients, witnesses
• Reviews videos/summaries, assess the child's development, behaviors/affect, and reviews the tools methods used during the interview
• Testifies in court
• Confers with County Attorney's Office regarding strengths/weaknesses of case
• Interacts with related agencies, law enforcement and service providers regarding investigative matters
• Designs and drafts office/program policies and procedures
• Assists with supervision and training of interns
• Ensures documentation meets legal requirements, multi-agency needs and all timelines
• Completes all mandatory case documentation and maintain confidentiality of all case information

Essential functions of the positions include but are not limited to: driving, standing and walking, working with and around other people, including family members, law enforcement, and other agencies; vision acuity (near & far) preparing paperwork; color vision; hearing and speech for ordinary conversations; finger dexterity.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years child welfare, law enforcement, probation or private criminal defense investigation experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
Arizona Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Completed Basic and Advanced Forensic Interview training (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).

Preferred qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field, five years of experience working with children experiencing child abuse/neglect maltreatment; experience in working with law enforcement, child protection, social services or behavioral health. Competence in conducting interviews with children following Advanced Forensic Interviewing Training (AFIT) guidelines or (ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). 

This position is safety sensitive.

This position is non-exempt from overtime.

   - Social work/Psychology/Behavioral health

   - Childhood development

   - Proper handling of legal evidence

 

Working knowledge of:

    - Legal practices and courtroom procedures

   - Standard office practices

   - Community health and social service resources

   - Social Work ethics and values

   - Child welfare practice  

 

Skill in:

     - Interviewing techniques for child abuse/neglect

     - Following investigative leads

     - Assisting with the healing process by demonstrating compassion and empathy towards children and their families

     - Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

 

Ability to:

     - Respond promptly to emergency situations/acute cases with collaboration and professional demeanor

     - Conduct forensic child evidentiary interviews regarding physical and sexual abuse, child witness to crime, sex trafficking

     - Conduct culturally and developmentally sensitive evidentiary interviews for children, adolescents and impaired adults

     - Provide expert testimony

     - Apply knowledge of child development in forensic interviewing

     - Refer children and families to counseling, victim services and community resources

     - Work well under high stress situations

     - Analyze complex criminal cases

     - Understand and interpret investigative procedures

     - Deal impartially with individuals of various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds

     - Prepare and maintain records and reports

     - Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety

     - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public

     - Follow written and verbal instructions

     - Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
