Under supervision performs work of moderate difficulty; develops respectful, engaging, and motivating teaching relationship with assigned youth; provides Training for assigned youth under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court; utilizes Psycho-Educational Programming that builds youths' prosocial motivations, beliefs, and skills; utilizes evidence based practices including youth and family centered and cognitive behavioral based practices; most often works one on one or in small groups with assigned youth; performs related work as assigned.(Illustrative Only)
Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment to the position. Associate degree in related field; OR one year experience working with juveniles in a residential setting; and demonstrated ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of a Treatment Specialist I; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must submit to background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for hire within the Juvenile Detention facility. Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within the first three months on the job. Forty hours of orientation training are required within first month on the job. Sixteen additional hours of COJET certified training are required each year. Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.

- Interacts directly with youth and builds a relationship through a strength-based approach.
- Works with assigned youth while they are in Detention or at home in the community.
- Models and teaches Prosocial Life Skills.
- Works to connect youth to the community.
- Works as an integrated team member with other program staff, parents, probation staff, detention staff, and other service providers to build youths' prosocial skills, motivations, & beliefs.
- Individually develops youth goals in coordination with probation and documents youth goals and progress in the skill trainer binder.
- Conducts various programs to reinforce Pro-Social Life Skills utilizing experiential and cognitive behavioral techniques.
- Works with youth and others to identify and build up youth's individual strengths and mitigate youth's challenges, and better meet youths' needs.
- Attends and participates in Family Probation Conferences.
- Transports, escorts, and/or participates with youth in prosocial skills building experiences, in groups, and in the community.
- Observes, records, and communicates youths' learning, behaviors, attitudes and responses to probation team.
- Enters timely and accurate Juvenile On-line Tracking System (JOLTS) data.
- Accepts rotating assignments and work schedules.
- May cover detention shifts as needed.
