What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planner- Community Development (0125) position at Coconino County?
Under general supervision performs entry level work in county planning involving research, analysis and coordination of projects; performs other duties as assigned.(Illustrative Only)
• Completes basic planning and zoning related tasks and projects including development case review, walk-in customer service, and development coordination
• Meets with developers and property owners
• Processes requests for addressing, rezoning, use permits, and variances
• Assists in development and implementation of comprehensive plans, area plans, and amendments to County development ordinances
• Coordinates pre-planning of County projects with appropriate user agencies
• Conducts research and collects data for a variety of reports
• May conduct site plan review
• May present project issues at public meetings
Essential functions of this position include: driving, sitting at desk, working with and around others; hearing and speech for communicating; finger dexterity to work on keyboard for writing reports and correspondence.
Associate degree in in planning, geography or a related field and one year of planning experience; OR
Bachelor degree in in planning, geography or a related field; OR
Any combination of education, training or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with rural planning and the geography of Coconino County.Preferences: Experience with rural planning; governmental planning.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
Working knowledge of:
- Principles, practices and techniques of County planning and zoning methods and research
- County, state and federal laws pertaining to County planning and zoning
- Land use ordinances and regulations.
Some knowledge of:
- Graphic techniques and interpretation of topographic maps
- Computer applications
- Public engagement
Ability to:
- Evaluate land use and rezoning issues and present facts accurately and concisely
- Conduct research and compile information to prepare reports
- Accurately interpret planning and land use requirements to interested groups and the general public
- Meet and deal tactfully with the public, developers and property owners
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
