Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, supervising, and coordinating divisional functions; performs related work as assigned.(Illustrative Only)
• Supervises and evaluates road maintenance staff
• Overseesroad maintenancedivision operations
• Monitors implementation of safety policies and procedures
• Participates in budget process
• Coordinates activities with other agencies and individuals
• Participates in snow removal operations
• Prepares and maintains records and reports
Essential functions of this position include: driving; working with and around others, staff, employees and the public; interruptions, telephones, 2 way radios and questions from staff; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) computer, telephone, tools & equipment; vision (near & far; color vision; hearing and speech for ordinary communication with employees and in meetings.
Five years experience in functional area, including two years of supervisory experience, OR any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Class A CDL with tanker, hazmat, and doubles/triples endorsements; Mining Safety and Health Association (MSHA); First Aid/CPR certification.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership experience and dedication to team members and the public at large. This individual will be an effective communicator and skilled in conflict resolution. In addition, knowledge in the scheduling and execution of road maintenance projects successfully in varying situations is preferred.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
This position is safety sensitive.
This position requires working various 12-hour snow or emergency shifts.
Considerable knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in functional area

- Occupational safety practices and procedures
Working knowledge of:
- County budgetary policies and procedures
- Use of computers to generate and maintain reports and records
- Laws, regulations, and policies governing hiring, supervision, and discipline of County employees
Ability to:
- Work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Plan, direct, and review the work of others
- Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds
- Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions
- Prepare and maintain records and reports
- Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers' service specifications
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
