Summary
Under the immediate supervision of the Day Care Program Director, A teacher Aide is responsible for supervising children, educating and supporting students to help them achieve learning benchmarks. Their duties include planning lessons that focus on specific skills and concepts, managing classroom behavior to keep all students engaged in the lesson, and providing individual support and feedback for their students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- The duties and responsibilities of the Teacher Assistant vary depending on the level of education.
- The Teacher Assistant is responsible for the overall supervision and daily class functionality as well as supporting the emotional wellbeing of the students.
- Implementing the Teacher’s lesson plans and maintaining daily classroom schedules.
- Supporting each child’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development.
- Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of children at all times.
- Using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies, as directed by the Teacher, to meet individual student needs.
- Assisting students with assignments or difficult concepts.
- Maintaining communication with parents, staff, and faculty regarding the progress of students.
- Others duties may be assigned.
Mental demands/Physical demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
- Job requires sitting for a long period (during planning and reporting) and standing for long periods (during observations and training), as well as stooping, squatting, and running.
- A moderate amount of driving is required.
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
- Provide basic needs for children
- Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
- Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks, and meals
- Ability to relate with staff, children, parents/guardians, and the public.
- Be flexible and able to meet challenges as they arise.
- Be punctual to meet a timely schedule
- Training in early childhood instructions.
- Experience in early childhood setting.
Qualifications
- Valid fingerprint clearance card
- Must pass DPS/FBI fingerprint background check.
- Must submit to a yearly physical, TB skin test.
- Ability to obtain Health Card.
- Valid AZ Driver’s License.
- Must be COVID-19 vaccinated or must obtain prior to the completion of the first 120-day training period.
- Testing may be required.
Education and/or Experience
- Associates degree in related field or trade school, professional or technical certification, specialized training
- 6-months specialized work experience, 2-years work experience in related field or 2-years general or supervisory work experience
- Qualifications in Child Development or Early Childhood Education (ECE, CDA) preferred, or must obtain within the first 2-years of employment.
