Job Purpose: The Production Operations Manager for Manufacturing is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of production operations within a small-scale manufacturing facility. This includes ensuring the efficient day-to-day management of the production process, meeting company goals, maintaining facility operations, and ensuring the highest standards of product quality and safety. The role directly supports the Director of Operations, working closely with a small team to optimize performance, manage inventory, reduce costs, and ensure a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Meeting Company Goals:
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to ensure alignment with business objectives and production goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to meet production schedules and targets while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Facilities Management:
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the facility, ensuring all equipment and machinery are functioning effectively.
- Coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance, and facility improvements to optimize the production environment.
- Quality Control:
- Establish and enforce quality standards to ensure products meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and oversee quality assurance processes, conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain production integrity.
- Work with production staff to address and resolve any quality issues promptly.
- Inventory Control:
- Manage inventory levels, ensuring optimal stock levels for raw materials and finished products.
- Work with the procurement team to monitor and control supply chain issues that impact production schedules.
- Regularly perform inventory audits and ensure all records are accurately maintained.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a small team of production employees to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Provide training and development opportunities to ensure team members have the necessary skills to perform their duties.
- Promote a positive work culture that prioritizes collaboration, open communication, and accountability.
- Performance Monitoring:
- Set clear performance goals for the production team and track progress toward those goals.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with staff and provide feedback to improve efficiency and quality.
- Identify areas for continuous improvement in production processes, implementing changes as necessary to increase productivity.
- Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
- Stay up to date with industry regulations and ensure compliance with all health and safety laws.
- Lead regular safety training sessions and maintain records of safety audits and incident reports.
- Cost Management:
- Work closely with the Director of Operations to track and manage production costs, including labor, materials, and overheads.
- Analyze production expenses and implement cost-saving measures where possible without compromising quality.
- Monitor and control waste, inefficiencies, and other factors that impact profitability.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in production management, preferably in a small or mid-sized manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of production processes, manufacturing equipment, and quality control standards.
- Proficiency in inventory management systems and software (e.g., ERP systems).
- Basic understanding of facilities management and maintenance procedures.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a small team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with different teams and stakeholders.
- Problem-solving skills to address production issues and improve operational efficiency.
- Quality and Safety Awareness:
- In-depth understanding of quality management systems and best practices in manufacturing.
- Knowledge of safety compliance and the ability to implement and enforce safety policies effectively.
- Cost Management and Analytical Thinking:
- Ability to manage budgets, track production costs, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills to assess performance data and make data-driven decisions for process improvements.
Working Conditions
- The role is based in a manufacturing facility with occasional office work.
- Physical presence in the production area is required.
- Occasional overtime may be necessary to meet production deadlines or resolve urgent issues.
- The role also requires assisting team members with assembly and production related tasks as needed, based on workflow requirements.
