What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Coder?
Coder is on a mission to build enterprise software that makes software developers’ lives easier and keeps them in flow. We are looking for a Controller who will be instrumental in defining the structure of our in-house accounting function as we grow.
Early projects will include optimizing our ERP system, developing and implementing financial processes and controls, supporting our international expansion and reviewing of our revenue recognition practices. This position will be able to grow the Accounting team in time.

Compensation Range: $143K - $246K

What You Will Do Here…
- Manage all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration, including the oversight of external bookkeeper
- Oversee the month end close process by preparing journal entries, preparing account reconciliations for complex accounts (e.g., revenue, equity), preparing monthly financial statement package
- Define revenue recognition process, including building templates to streamline revenue recognition calculation process and collaborate with leaders of finance, sales and legal to optimize revenue recognition
- Collaborate with the department heads within Coder to ensure various business needs are considered and planned for and existing systems can integrate with our ERP system, NetSuite
- Collaborate with Finance to perform analysis of monthly financial statements, actuals for comparative periods as well as against budget
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure accounting standards are upheld as the company scales
- Lead execution of first financial statement audit
- 8 -12 years of accounting experience
- 2 years of experience in public accounting
- CPA required
- ASC 606 experience required
- Experience in a startup to midsized company
- Hands on management experience with ERP systems
- Experience with financial accounting audits
- Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills
- Strong EQ
- Self-motivated, with a creative and analytical mindset
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent

- 4 years in public accounting preferred
- 2 years of people management experience
- A curiosity about the latest tech trends and what is going on in the world of Cloud Development Environments and/or developer tools
