Our client is a leading SaaS Transportation Management System (TMS) provider that helps businesses simplify and optimize their shipping operations. Our cloud-based platform integrates seamlessly with various carriers, ERPs, and WMS solutions, allowing customers to streamline logistics, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator / Database Engineer (DBA/DBE) to support our development team, optimize database performance, and ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of our SQL Server environment hosted in AWS.
The Database Admin is responsible for all aspects of database management. This includes owning the processes and approvals for changes and governance, database security, maintenance, and optimization as well as database backup, redundancy, and disaster recovery. The Database Admin must be in the know of all the newest technologies and database-related items that can help FreightPOP. The Database Admin will also work with various teams on strategic items and tactical projects when they involve anything relating to the database or database servers. The Database Admin is also responsible for keeping all documentation updated and
working appropriately. The Database Admin needs to communicate and escalate issues to the executive team and his manager.
What You’ll Do
Be the database owner - Ensure the database is maintained, is updated and
needed and is optimized regularly for optimal performance based on the client's application needs.
Assist Developers with Database Design – Collaborate with developers to create efficient database schemas, enforce best practices, and review code for optimal SQL execution.
Optimize Queries and Performance – Analyze and improve slow-running queries, optimize stored procedures, and fine-tune indexing strategies.
Database Maintenance and Administration – Manage backups, restores, anddisaster recovery plans; monitor database health, storage, and performance metrics.
Index and Query Optimization – Continuously improve indexing strategies,optimize query execution plans, and help reduce query latency.
Security and Compliance – Implement and enforce database security controls, including access management, encryption, and auditing.
Updates and Patching – Keep SQL Server environments up to date with the latest patches, security updates, and AWS optimizations.
Capacity Planning and Scalability – Plan for growth by ensuring our database infrastructure is scalable and efficient.
Monitoring and Alerting – Set up and maintain monitoring solutions to proactively identify performance bottlenecks and resolve potential issues before they impact users.
Qualifications
5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA/DBE, preferably in a cloud-based SaaS environment.
Strong expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
Experience working in AWS-hosted SQL Server environments, including EC2- based deployments.
Proficiency in database security best practices, access controls, encryption, and compliance frameworks.
Hands-on experience with database backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
Ability to work closely with developers to review database code, optimize queries, and enforce best practices.
Familiarity with automation tools for database maintenance and monitoring.
Experience with T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and database migrations.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex database
concepts to developers and stakeholders.
Nice to Have
Experience with CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
Experience with analytics platforms such as Snowflake, and Power BI.
