Job Title : College and Career Success Coordinator (LONG TERM SUB POSITION SY24-25)
Supervisor : Chief of Student and Community Advancement
Start Date / Hours : July 1–June 30; 10 : 00 am-6 : 00 pm, Monday through Friday
Description : The Dean of College and Career Success Coordinator is responsible for creating and managing programs that support high school students' transition to college and career pathways while also facilitating the transition to the Codman alumni support program. This role includes organizing college visits, facilitating career exploration, and managing a comprehensive internship program. The Coordinator will oversee events such as alumni panels, college trips, and career networking opportunities, while also managing post secondary and internship opportunities and communications.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to) :
College and Career Advising
Manage complete college application process for 11th and 12th graders
Teach weekly College Seminars for juniors and seniors
Design and manage summer college preparatory programs for rising seniors, including summer intensive college applications.
Develop college lists (starting junior year)
Ensure that application components are completed on time
Support 11th-grade Humanities teachers with essay editing
Write letters of recommendation for all 12th-grade applicants
Assist in the college decision process
Support students not pursuing traditional 4-year college in post-secondary planning.
Coordinate on-campus tours for current high school students, connecting them with Codman alumni to share insights into college experiences and career opportunities.
Organize alumni panels, including HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), PWI (Predominantly White Institutions), and career panels, offering students diverse perspectives.
Plan and lead overnight college visits, including HBCU tours, and other college trips during the school year, summer, and school vacations.
Manage pre-college support programs during the summer before students transition to college, preparing them for academic and social success.
Advise students in dual enrollment / AP opportunities
Build and nurture relationships with colleges, admissions offices, and external organizations to enhance opportunities for current students and alumni.
Update and maintain the school profile to accurately reflect the achievements of students and alumni, supporting ongoing partnerships.
Program and Career Exploration
Facilitate student participation in gap year and career readiness programs, such as BUILD and Year Up, exposing students to a variety of post-secondary opportunities.
Organize visits to various educational and career programs to broaden students’ perspectives on potential pathways.
Support financial aid process for students and parents
Provide financial aid education
Hold FAFSA and CSS Profile workshop (January)
Hold Understanding your Financial Aid workshop (April)
Manage partnerships with college and career programs
Manage comprehensive college preparation program for 9th, 10th and 11th graders
Teach weekly freshman seminar course and Sophomore career exploration course
Plan and execute College visits for students grades 9-12
Organize college visits to Codman, including the annual Codman Speed Dating event
Register 11th graders for SAT and / or ACT and SAT subject tests (if necessary)
Internship coordination
Coordinate meaningful internship placements connected to student interests
Oversee the supporting seminars for the internship program
Oversee the capstone projects for all students participating in internships
Ensure all students complete two internships in time for graduation
Plan and execute career networking events to connect current students and alumni with industry professionals, mentors, and peers.
Host pre-alumni and alumni breakfasts to introduce students to the wider alumni network and the support systems available.
Partnership Management
Oversee the implementation of key partnerships including CampusBound, Dual enrollment programs and Overgrad.
Oversee college and career communications, including managing the events calendar, newsletters, event invitations, job posting and social media outreach.
Seek out professional development opportunities
Participate in Boston charter school college counseling professional development.
Update and publicize the scholarship database
Update College Profile annually
Develop and strengthen relationship with college admissions offices
Send out regular communications through Constant Contact to families keeping them apprised of the college and career process.
Year One Support
Collaborate with colleagues (including the Board's Alumni Success Committee, Chief of Student and Community Advancement, Principals and the Head of School) to manage and oversee Codman’s year one alumni support program to promote college persistence and graduation
Use data to inform practice and measure progress toward strategic plan goals
Lead in house staff member supporting alumni events, including Graduation, Alumni Panel, Alumni Reunions and Networking
Share alumni data with staff, Boards and subcommittees
Maintain partnership with Bottom Line to support alumni in this program
Hold summer meeting with rising freshman before they enter college
Ensure all students entering college have plan for paying bill
Waive student health insurance
Sign transcript reimbursement form
Use Codman Alumni plan to support persistence in college (regular contact, connecting to resources on campus etc.)
Manage transcript reimbursement program to increase quantitative data
Visit Alumni on campus as time allows
Administer regular alumni surveys to gather qualitative and quantitative data
Collaborate with other charter schools working on college persistence
Coordinate 2-3 alumni networking events annually
Support dissemination of funds to alumni, particularly scholarships and grant-funded unpaid internships
Coordinate alumni working on campus
