Position Overview
Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking an Early Childhood and Moderate Disabilities/Inclusion Teacher for our K1 program. This position will utilize the Focus on K1 curriculum, a play-based, inquiry-driven model that fosters early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. The ideal candidate will create an inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with disabilities, ensuring access to a high-quality early childhood education. This role requires an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement and a strong commitment to inclusive and differentiated instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction
Implement the Focus on K1 curriculum, integrating play-based learning, structured routines, and hands-on activities to develop early literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills.
- Design and adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with moderate disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Utilize universal design for learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction to ensure all students can access and engage with content.
Promote language development and early communication skills through rich classroom dialogue, storytelling, and interactive read-alouds.
Student Engagement & Inclusion
Foster a developmentally appropriate and inclusive learning environment that supports social-emotional growth and student independence.
- Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and provide necessary accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
- Utilize positive behavior support strategies to encourage self-regulation and community-building among young learners.
Collaborate with specialists (e.g., speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists) to ensure integrated support for students with diverse learning needs.
Collaboration & School Engagement
Work closely with co-teachers, special education staff, and EL educators to ensure students receive individualized and comprehensive support.
- Maintain regular communication with families, providing updates on student progress and strategies for learning at home.
- Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives to strengthen early childhood instructional practices.
Engage in EL Education's expeditionary learning model, creating interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities for young students.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Massachusetts teaching certification in Early Childhood Education (PreK-2) and Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8).
- SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement required.
- Experience teaching in an inclusive early childhood setting.
- Knowledge of early childhood development, play-based learning, and social-emotional learning strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the success of students and the overall K1 program.
Preferred:
Experience implementing the Focus on K1 curriculum.
- Background in supporting ELLs and students with disabilities.
- Familiarity with EL Education’s student-centered approach.
Strong collaboration and communication skills with families and colleagues.
Salary Range: Based on CACPS Scale
