Job Title : Health Education Teacher
Supervisor : Chief of Student and Community Advancement or designee
Start Date August 2024 - June 2025 Duration : 11 months
Hours : Monday through Friday; LMS 8 : 00am-4 : 45pm
Description : The Health Education Teacher provides direct instruction to students in Health Education in order to deliver high expectations for achievement and equal access to high levels of instruction for all students. License in Health / Family Consumer Sciences at the appropriate level preferred.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to) :
Health Education
Participate in curriculum review and design in the areas of nutrition, healthy lifestyle and sexual and reproductive health.
Provide comprehensive 7 through grade 12 health education that is medically-accurate, age and developmentally appropriate, culturally inclusive, and implemented in safe and supportive learning environments.
Plan and implement age and grade -appropriate, interactive and engaging lessons that align with state standards.
Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives
Evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner
Create a safe and inclusive environment that is conducive to learning
Monitor Student progress, adjust instructions accordingly and provide timely feedback
Maintain accurate student records and adhere to Codman policies
Create plans that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
Collaborate with school nurse, school educators and other relevant staff to foster school-wide wellness initiatives
Work in collaboration with the heath pathway programs to provide opportunities to advance and apply to concepts learned in Health Education.
Manage student behavior and maintain a positive classroom climate
Participate in school and professional development activities Effectively implement Codman initiatives.
Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle Education
Assist the Wellness Director in upholding nutrition standards at Codman; Junk Food Policy, Reusable Water Bottles, etc
Develop creative signage in the K1-8 building to promote healthy eating
Collaborate with relevant staff to create and organization monthly nutrition / wellness initiatives
Collaborate with the Food Services Team in creating an atmosphere of serving well-prepared and nutritious meals based on student input with focus on increased lunch participation in middle and high school.
Create a team based approach to promote healthy lifestyle and healthy food knowledge in conjunction with school food service director, wellness coordinator, school nurse and partnership director.
Sexual Health and Reproductive Health Education
Work with the school nurse office team and relevant partners to implement evidence based curriculum for sexual and reproductive health for grades 3rd-12th.
Create relevant health message for students for STD prevention and access to preventive and clinical care in coordination with the school nurse and partnership team.
Wellness Team
Join biweekly meetings with the Wellness Team to capitalize on strengths and identify areas of growth within the department
Reference SMART Goals in an effort to increase efficacy through Formative and Summative and Formative assessments
Demonstrate Codman’s Habits of Scholarship within all interactions with students
Partnerships
Serve as a member of the CACPS / CSHC joint Wellness Committee
Development of meaningful partnerships to support the growth of the program
Create outreach messages for health and wellness
Community Engagement and Stewardship
