Position Overview
Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking a passionate and skilled Dance Teacher to lead a dynamic K-12 dance program. The ideal candidate will have expertise in a variety of dance styles and a commitment to fostering creativity, self-expression, and cultural appreciation through movement. This role is responsible for developing and implementing an engaging dance curriculum that builds students’ technical skills, confidence, and appreciation for the performing arts.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction
Develop and implement a comprehensive K-12 dance curriculum aligned with state and national standards.
- Teach a range of dance styles, including but not limited to ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, cultural dance forms, and choreography.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and ensure an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.
Integrate dance history, anatomy, and cultural perspectives into lessons to provide students with a well-rounded understanding of dance.
Student Engagement & Development
Create a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel confident expressing themselves through movement.
- Choreograph and direct student performances for school assemblies, showcases, and community events.
- Support students in developing their technical dance skills, creativity, and physical fitness.
Provide individualized coaching and mentorship to students interested in pursuing dance beyond the classroom.
Classroom & Resource Management
Maintain a well-organized and safe dance studio environment, ensuring proper care of equipment and facilities.
- Manage dance program materials, costumes, and resources effectively.
Incorporate technology and multimedia into dance instruction when appropriate.
Collaboration & School Engagement
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate movement and dance into other subject areas.
- Work with school leadership to enhance arts programming and community partnerships.
- Participate in school-wide events, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Engage families and the community in student performances and dance-related activities.
Additional Duties
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School to support the overall success of Codman Academy.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Massachusetts teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain certification) in Dance or Performing Arts.
- 2 years of experience teaching dance, preferably in a K-12 educational setting.
- Strong background in various dance styles, choreography, and performance production.
- Experience developing and implementing a culturally responsive dance curriculum.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.

Salary Range: Based on CACPS Scale
