Manager of Campus Grounds
Coe College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Manager of Campus Grounds which supports the mission of the department and the college by overseeing and coordinating the work of a grounds staff. This is a full-time exempt position that is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the campus grounds, athletic fields and college equipment, and oversees the snow and ice removal on campus with the support of the physical plant staff. The Manager of Campus Grounds develops, recommends and implements solutions that may impact several functional areas, assisting with relocation and special event set-ups, and other duties as assigned. This position will be on-call rotation throughout the year and may be required to work nights and weekends as needed.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Working to ensure our campus landscape is beautiful, while also making them functional for our environment and working within the best environmental stewardship principles.
- Perform all essential functions of the Campus Grounds and Facilities Manager to maintain and improve the appearance of the grounds. Perform and oversee turf maintenance; mowing, edging, aerating, watering, leaf/debris removal, turf and plant, renovations, seeding, sodding, repair of irrigation and installation of new lawns. Maintain established turf by means of mowing, fertilizing, irrigating and the application of chemicals.
- Oversee the work on game field maintenance and game day operations. Field work such as dragging, lining, watering, mowing, edging, rolling and setting up equipment.
- Operate a variety of equipment such as a mower, backhoe, front end loader, tractor, trencher, snow blower and other snow removal equipment, etc.
- Perform or facilitate pruning, planting, watering, fertilizing and trimming shrubs and flowers. Plant and prune trees. Weed and edge beds, mulch, spread herbicide and perform and oversee landscape renovations.
- Plow, broom, shovel, scrape and haul snow and ice from sidewalks, roadways and steps, work with outside contractor to maintain parking lots.
- Assist in the coordination of facilities related projects that may include outside contractors and multiple in-house trades to keep up irrigation, landscaping, concrete and mechanical etc.
- Picking up litter around campus.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Requires high school diploma or GED. BA or BS is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grounds keeping or related field.
- Ability to operate equipment and machinery such as string trimmers, snow blowers, push mowers, tractors, salt spreaders and riding mowers.
- Applicator's license.
- Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
- Successful completion of background and driver checks in accordance with Coe College policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance and demonstrate bending, crouching and lifting.
- Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, air pollution and heights.
- May involve exposure to chemical substances, hazards and moving parts.
- Work schedule is subject to change in accordance with College needs and/or the results of the shift line-up process.
- Call-ins may be mandatory based on College need.
