Wilderness Field Station Program Assistant
Coe College seeks applications from qualified candidates for the position of Station Program Assistant. The Coe College Wilderness Field Station is an undergraduate teaching field station located near Ely Minnesota and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. We are off the grid, and courses here revolve around giving students exposure to the wilderness environment around them. The Wilderness Field Station seeks an individual to assist with day to day basis needs of the camp and students.
Work Schedule/Hours: TBD
Months of Service per Year: late May 2025-early August 2025
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- pick up and drop off incoming WFS students
- clean cabins, bathrooms, dorms and other buildings as necessary
- assist classes in preparing for their camping trips
- moving and repairing canoes
- assisting groups on trail
- opening and closing the station
- assisting in the kitchen
- assist with biological field work
- pick up of food and purchasing of other supplies in Ely, MN
- dropping off and picking up groups from their canoe camping trips
- doing inventory and repairing our gear.
- Assist with maintenance of the physical plant of the Wilderness Field Station.
Preferred Job Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the Wilderness Field Station as an alumnus/alumna or friend
- Knowledge of the Ely, MN community useful, but not necessary.
- Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
- Successful completion of a background and driver checks in accordance with Coe College Policy.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
Position Specific:
- Basic maintenance experience – i.e. painting, light carpentry.
- Experience with all aspects of wilderness camping, including gear maintenance, food preparation, and best practices in health and safety in the field.
- Ability to work independently.
- Communication and cooperation with a small staff and faculty.
