SUMMARY:
The Assistant Landscape Specialist will assist in the maintenance and improvement of the Casino's landscapes, ensuring a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing environment for our Guests and Team Members. You will work closely with the Landscape Specialist and the Golf Course Superintendent to care for lawns, landscape beds, plants, and Casino Interiorscape. In this position your daily tasks will include planting, trimming, watering, and general upkeep of the Landscape. The ideal candidate should have a passion for plants, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures that the grounds are clean, safe, and tidy and to ensure the gardens, woodlands, fields, and hedges are properly prepared for each season and cared for during the season.
- Prunes and perform all mechanical care of plant materials and lawn areas of the casino complex.
- Assists in propagating, planting, and maintaining annuals, perennial flowers, grasses, and woody plant materials to the highest standard of horticulture practices.
- Educates coworkers and members of the visiting public on the care and maintenance of the landscape and plant selection.
- Cleans and maintains tools and equipment daily and alerts the equipment manager or technicians to substandard or unsafe equipment.
- Install hardscape, bark, rock, and irrigation where needed.
- Operates mowers, blowers, line trimmers, when needed.
- Operates tractors for loading and trailers for carting soil, debris, tools, and machinery.
- Safely and correctly applies fertilizes or pesticides to control unwanted plants or pests and coordinate fertilization of large lawn areas with the Golf Course Maintenance team
- Installs, removes, and maintains outdoor Christmas light displays on landscape and buildings.
- Makes recommendations on purchases and placement of interior plants.
- Work outside, for long periods of time in all aspects of weather.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Valid driver’s license required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- One year's previous customer service experience preferred.
- Previous experience working with grounds, landscape, or Interiorscape.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Some knowledge and interest in plant growth and development.
- Must have the physical ability and desire to learn the maintenance techniques of annual and perennial plant materials, their growth habits, and their care.
- Plant identification, selection, care, and landscape design principles.
- Must be adaptable to changing tasks and work environment.
- Verbal communication skills required.
- Basic problem-solving skills required.
- Must work well with minimal supervision.
