About The Job

The Database Geologist (Mine Geologist II) role will focus on Database Administration and report to the Geology Superintendent. Responsibilities include managing the acQuire assay database, overseeing assay import, QAQC, geological data integrity, and ensuring timely monthly and quarterly reporting. Additional duties involve maintaining the database lockdown procedure and serving as a liaison with both external and internal assay labs. To enhance versatility, the role will also include cross-training for underground ore control coverage. This position will be based in Juneau with a Monday-Thursday schedule at the Kensington Mine Site.

Responsibilities

• Maintain assay QAQC protocols to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
• Manage the importing, validation, and integrity of assay data within the acQuire database.
• Generate and validate routine assay and geological reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform the lockdown process for all stope and definition drillholes once final assay data has been received.
• Provide backup support for underground mine geology tasks, including sampling, mapping, and reconciliation.
• Collaborate with the Geology Superintendent and Technical Services Manager to optimize data management workflows and QAQC processes.
• Support training initiatives to enhance the geology team’s understanding and utilization of database systems.
• Regularly coordinate with Mine Geologists, Exploration, and Technical Services teams to ensure accurate and timely data availability for decision-making.
  
  

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Ability to work safely and promote a strong safety culture.
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
• 3 years of experience in a mining environment; internships considered.
• Strong understanding of assay QAQC principles and best practices.
• Proficiency in geological database management systems, preferably acQuire.
• Familiarity with mine planning software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog, or Deswik is an asset.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with geology and operations teams.
• Willingness to learn and cross-train in underground mine geology tasks.
• Preference given to Alaskan residents.
