Job Description


School Psychologist (Special Education)



Responsible to: Director of Special Education


Qualifications:

  1. Specialist or Doctorial Degree in School Psychology
  2. Certification in school psychology in accordance with state law and the State Board

Rules and Regulations

  1. Sufficient experience to perform duties
  2. NASP certification preferred

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. To enable student s to derive the fullest possible educational experience for school by

promoting their sense of self and addressing any behavioral, psychological or

mental health problems

  1. Helps identify within the school all exceptional students
  2. Help to maintain a system on all referred students; pre-referral and referral meetings

and maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to

students, parents, staff, and programs

  1. Administers psychological tests and interprets assessment results for the purpose of

diagnosis and placement, assesses, designs, and modifies instruction for student

with a wide range of disabilities in the special education and general education

setting

  1. Assists in the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior

Intervention Plans; assists with the implementations of positive behavior support

systems

  1. Provides individual and group counseling and other mental health services as

appropriate

  1. Works collaboratively with others in a school-based/academic setting
  2. Consults on special educational needs of exceptional children
  3. Attends multidisciplinary team meetings for placement of individual students
  4. Provides consultation to teachers, parents, and school staff as needed
  5. Prepares and submits psycho educational reports within the legal time lines
  6. Acts as a liaison with community agencies that provide services to children
  7. Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings
  8. Assists with in-services training of school personnel and provides in-service trainings

as needed

  1. Keep abreast of new developments and laws within the field of school psychology
  2. Assists students, families and schools deal with crisis situations
  3. May be a member of the school system emergency crisis team
  4. Assists in researching and planning programs that meet the special needs of the

students

  1. Assists with Child Find and necessary evaluations and placement
  2. Attend regional and national conferences to maintain appropriate licensure and best

practices in school psychology

  1. Other Responsibilities as determined by the Director of Schools

  1. Follows Federal and State Laws and adopted policies and procedures in accordance

with School Board priorities

  1. Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest

standards of public education and in support of the District's Vision/Mission

  1. Maintains ethical standards, which include professionalism and the protection of

confidential student and staff information

  1. Other responsibilities and/or duties may be required and assigned
