POSITION SUMMARY
RN Operating Room Circulator
- The Circulating Registered Nurse (RN) works to promote patient’s good health, prevent illness and injury in the Perioperative Setting.
- Educates patients and families about the procedures being performed.
- Provides information and emotional support to patient’s families about the procedure.
- Circulating RN’s use considerable judgement in providing care in a wide variety of procedures.
- Focuses on the overall care of patients under the supervision of doctors and keep records of symptoms and progress during the procedure.
- May supervise Certified Surgical Techs, First Assistants and Patient Care Techs.
- The circulating nurse will review the chart for any labs ordered, consents signed, dated and timed for Anesthesia and the surgery procedure prior to patient being moved to the operating room.
- The circulating nurse will ensure that all CRMC policies and procedures are enforced at all times.
- The circulating nurse will be the lead person in the room to ensure all equipment, medications and positioning devices are in the room for the procedure being performed.
- The circulating nurse will be the lead person to ensure that all instrument and sponge counts are correct for each procedure.
- The circulating nurse will immediately notify the Charge Nurse, Manager or Director of any adverse effects or incidents that may occur during the surgical procedure.
- It is the responsibility of the Circulating Nurse to ensure there is adequate staff in the room for safe patient positioning.
- The Circulating Nurse will be responsible for maintaining the sterile field during the procedure.
- The Circulating Nurse is responsible for accurate charting of the surgical procedure being performed. This includes an accurate account of all implants, grafts, biologics, supplies, etc for the procedure being performed.
- The Circulating Nurse will be available to assist Anesthesia personnel at all times when needed during the procedures.
- The Circulating Nurse will participate in the On-Call rotation within the Perioperative Setting. The Circulating Nurse will be available to the hospital within 30 minutes of receiving an after-hours call back for any surgical procedures. This call back rotation will include some holidays as well as weekends.
