I. NARRATIVE GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Counselor at Coffeyville Community College plays a pivotal role in supporting students' mental health and holistic well-being. Working within a dynamic and diverse academic community, the Counselor provides counseling services to students, addressing various personal, academic, and emotional concerns. The incumbent utilizes a holistic counseling approach to effectively address students’ educational, social, and individual needs.
II. FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Provide individual counseling sessions through various mediums, including walk-in sessions, appointments, advising desk, telephone calls, e-mail, and other distance-advising tools.
B. Conduct group counseling sessions to address common concerns and
facilitate peer support.
C. Use a holistic counseling approach to effectively address students
educational, social, and personal needs.
D. Research, organize, and execute engaging workshops and sessions to
address academic issues and support student well-being.
E. Present workshops on mental health, academic, and social difficulties to
faculty and staff to facilitate identification and support for student needs.
F. Develop support groups and well-being programs to raise awareness about
mental health issues and available resources.
G. Provide mental health services for a range of issues, including stress, anxiety management, domestic violence, relationships, academic or job pressures substance abuse, grief, eating disorders and trauma.
H. Conduct risk assessments and provide in-person and virtual crisis responses and intervention.
I. Develop support groups and well-being programs to raise awareness about
mental health issues and available resources.
J. Offer career counseling services and interpretation of personality
assessments such as the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type
Indicator (MBTI) to assist students in making informed career decisions.
K. Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all student interactions, records and meetings
L. Collaborate with CCC staff and other mental health professionals to provide comprehensive care to students.
M. Serve on committees to promote student success and mental health,
contributing to campus-wide efforts to create a positive environment.
N. Meet attendance expectations as required for the position which may include a willingness to work unusual hours including evenings and week-ends as needed.
O. Perform other duties as assigned.

IV. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
A. Experience providing counseling services to college students or young adults preferred.
V. REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or
related field. Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a counselor or therapist (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LCSW)
