Assistant Director of Nursing
Full Time - Salaried Position
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m - 4:30 p.m.
Pay Range: $95,000 - $99,000/year

SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide an organized and structured Plan of Nursing Care for the residents at all times. In the absence of the Director of Nursing (referred also as DON), the Assistant Director of Nursing (referred also as ADON) will assume the duties of the Director of Nursing as outlined in the job description.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes but not limited to the following:
- Develop, update, and maintain nursing department policies and procedures.
- Oversight of Advanced Directives for all nursing residents with completion of the 72 hour advanced directive audit until delegated to Social Services.
- Determine in-service needs of nursing staff with recommendations from nursing management.
- Assist Director of Nursing with annual competencies for nursing associates. Ensure clinical competency of Nursing staff (licensed and non-licensed) through evaluation of skills and coordination of annual competency evaluations.
- Ensure that new hire orientation and annual training curriculum meets or exceeds state, and federal requirements annually.
- Present nursing training modules during monthly new hire orientation program.
- Conduct CPR training and maintain record keeping for all eligible employees.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor nursing department orientation schedule (outline) for new nursing associates.
- Perform med pass observations and track medication administration for errors providing coaching, counseling, and training as necessary.
- Assist Director of Nursing with daily clinical rounds.
- Review 24-hour report, personally check residents and documentation. Communicate with administrative nurses daily. Notify Director of Nursing and VP of Health Services/ LNHA of resident or staff issues.
- Interview potential resident in conjunction with Social Services Department, as needed.
- Partner with Human Resources to provide on the job injury assessment for treatment; education; and creation of transitional duty assignments as needed for organization.
- Respond to customer complaints. Communicate complaint and action taken to VP of Health Services/LNHA and Director of Nursing.
- Maintain communication with Medical Director and attending physicians, as required by administrative staff and Medical Director.
- Provide daily direction to licensed staff. Prepare and review counseling documentation with associates as needed.
- Oversee staff assignments and scheduling to ensure fair and equitable assignments.
- Conduct new hire or internal promotion interviews for nursing positions.
- Log resident incidents within incident tracking system. Review each for signatures and proper completion.
- Complete annual performance reviews in conjunction with Director of Nursing.
- Participate in on-call supervision rotation of the organization (MOD & Nursing Department).
- Monitor compliance with infection control standards.
- Conduct annual reviews of department job descriptions with the Director of Nursing, VP of Health Services/LNHA. and VP of Operations.
- Assist Director of Nursing with annual and self-report survey process maintaining regulatory standards.
SAFETY
1. Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate staff and completes work orders when indicated.
2. Identify and remove safety hazards/devices and reports to appropriate personnel.
3. Assure a safe, clean, and clutter free environment.
4. Utilize standard precautions by wearing protective equipment (goggles, gowns, and gloves) when indicated and use correct hand washing technique.
5. Follow facility fire and safety policies.
6. Participate in the implementation and maintenance of infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases including TB and blood borne pathogens among the residents and personnel.
INFECTION CONTROL
1. Ensures proper hand washing technique and infection control measures as follows.
2. Assists in established isolation precautions and procedures.
3. Monitors all poisons (medications, creams, lotions, and cleaning solutions) that are locked and out of reach of the residents.
4. Follow established safety precautions in the performance of all duties.
5. Participate in fire and disaster drills.
6. Follow established smoking regulations and reports all violations.
COMPUTER
Enter, adjust and retrieve data using a microcomputer or personal computer and keyboard.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise all nursing department staff in conjunction with Director of Nursing and at the direction of LNHA.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
RN and two years of nursing management experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current licensure in the state of Maryland as an RN or eligibility for same. Current BLS certification.
