POSITION TITLE: Medical Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Ancillary
NATURE OF POSITION: The Medical Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Assistant role performs all analytical phases of the routing laboratory operation in a moderate complexity laboratory. The MLT/Lab Assistant also provides administrative assistance for the Ancillary Services Leadership roles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma
- Phlebotomy Certification
- Five years of Laboratory assistance experience
- Secondary education in a science or medical field that includes anatomy and physiology
- Performs all laboratory procedures using appropriate equipment and materials
- Appropriately documents quality control procedures, instrument checks and maintenance reports
- Records workload and test results according to established lab protocol
- Verifies ancillary services provided and makes appropriate changes to the superbill
- Takes corrective action with proper documentation when controls are out of range or test results are abnormal
- Performs proficiency testing according to the schedule subscribed from the American Proficiency Institute
- Performs venipuncture/capillary sticks on adults and pediatric patients
- Performs other phlebotomy duties as necessary
- Processes samples according to test specific requirements
- Manages orders and charges for testing.
- Document appropriate consent form prior to patient testing
- Performs and appropriately document equipment checks and maintenance.
- Employ radiological procedures and techniques appropriately, efficiently, and effectively.
- Utilize X-ray computer system for data entry and processing X-ray images.
- Perform and document diagnostic X-ray exams.
- Utilize PACs system to submit completed exam images to the radiologist.
- Retrieve and import radiologist reports into the patient’s electronic health record.
- Follow all safety regulations concerning radiology personnel and patients.
- Use protective clothing and devices properly.
- Consult with leadership when difficulties are encountered in the testing procedure.
- Provides quality patient care.
- Assist in inventory and record retention.
- Daily disinfection of work surfaces and equipment used in the department.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
