Description
Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. Secures, unlocks and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of hospital staff, patients and visitors. Participates in performance improvement activities.
This is a PRN position.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have a current Texas driver’s license
- One to three (1-3) years’ experience in the field of law enforcement and/or security management; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred but not required
- Successful completion of BLS course after employment.
Position Description:
- Provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling the buildings and grounds of the hospital.
- Responds quickly and effectively to emergent and non-emergent situations.
- Ensures only authorized staff are admitted onto hospital premises.
- Escorts visitors, patients and staff to and from parking areas as needed.
- Performs all aspects of care and service in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Maintains current information in lost and found logs. Notifies individuals when items reported as missing are located.
- Serves as a member of the Fire Control Team and responds to code Red.
- Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by hospital staff, visitors, physicians or patients and reports all incidents, verbally or through general incident form, by the end of each shift.
- Writes accurate, clear and legible incident reports and documents investigatory steps and results.
- Responds to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients including assisting patient care staff in restraining patients.
- Patrols buildings and grounds; inspects doors, windows and locks to determine level of security.
- Patrols parking areas to detect any irregularities.
- Reports all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections.
- Periodically conducts security classes for new staff and refresher security classes for current staff.
- Assists and gives courteous responses to any inquiries made by patients, visitors or staff.
- Monitors the hospital using electronic security equipment (closed-circuit television, alarms, etc.).
- Enforces all hospital policies and procedures as assigned by administration and the Security Department Director.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Performs all other responsibilities as directed.

- Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
- Attends staff meetings, reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
- Attends mandatory meetings held within the department.
- Adjust work hours/schedule as needed to meet the needs and demands of department and hospital.
- Aware of all Emergency Disaster Plans and how to respond if a Disaster occurs.
- Participates in the development of new business strategies to enhance market share and improve overall financial performance.

- Assumes additional duties as assigned by the CEO and/or CFO.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages preferred
• Knowledge of investigative procedures, de-escalating violence, hospital security, infant/child abduction and protection mechanisms.
• Basic computer knowledge.
