Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Google Cloud Platform Data Engineer to join our team in Sunnyvale, CA. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining big data applications using the latest open-source technologies, specifically within the Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). This position offers the opportunity to lead key projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to critical infrastructure in a collaborative, Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Engineering: Design and develop big data applications using Google Cloud Platform, Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Kafka, and other open-source technologies.
• Data Modeling: Create and maintain logical and physical data models for large-scale data platforms.
• Pipeline Development: Build and manage data pipelines utilizing Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Apache Kafka, and other distributed technologies.
• Automation: Automate data workflows using Apache Airflow and other workflow orchestration tools.
• Maintenance & Enhancement: Provide ongoing maintenance and improvements to existing systems, ensuring robust and efficient data processing.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Lead daily standups, design reviews, and mentor junior engineers to support their professional growth.
• Domain Expertise: Learn and understand the business domain and technology infrastructure to become the point of contact for your assigned business domain.
• Agile Development: Work within an Agile/Scrum environment, managing competing priorities with little supervision and using tools like JIRA to prioritize and manage the backlog.
• On-Call Support: Participate in rotational on-call support and troubleshooting activities.

Required Skills & Experience

• Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform): 4 years of experience working with Google Cloud Platform services such as Dataproc, GCS, and BigQuery.
• Data Engineering: 12 years of hands-on experience with data warehouse solutions, data products, and distributed data processing platforms like Hadoop, Hive, or Spark.
• Programming & Scripting: 5 years of experience in languages such as Python, Java, Scala, and scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Shell).
• Data Modeling: 6 years of experience designing and modeling schemas for data lakes and RDBMS platforms.
• Big Data Experience: Extensive experience with multi-terabyte and petabyte scale data processing.
• Agile Methodologies: Proven experience working in Scrum/Agile environments.
• Test-Driven Development (TDD): Familiarity with automated testing frameworks.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Skills

• Version Control & CI/CD: Experience with GitFlow and tools like Atlassian Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence.
• Continuous Integration: Familiarity with CI tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or TFS.
• Cloud Certifications: Google Cloud Platform certifications are a plus.
