JOB SUMMARY
The National Director of Memory Care is responsible for leading and overseeing memory care operations across the organization's communities. This position ensures excellence in resident care through quality assurance programs, regulatory compliance, and strategic leadership. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Care and Compliance, the National Director of Memory Care plays a critical role in shaping and maintaining high standards of care, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and supporting memory care teams in delivering exceptional resident outcomes.
Guided by the organization's three pillars -Excellence, Human Focus, and Creativity- this leader will champion innovative memory care strategies, prioritize resident-centered solutions, and drive continuous improvement in care practices. The National Director will be instrumental in implementing and overseeing Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, dementia-specific training, and the coordination of onboarding for all memory care positions. The National Director will also serve as a key resource for regional and community-based memory care leaders, providing guidance, training, and support to drive operational and clinical excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Memory Care Leadership & Oversight
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure high-quality memory care across all communities.
- Oversee the Regional Directors of Memory Care, ensuring alignment with corporate initiatives and best practices.
- Collaborate with executive and operational leadership to drive key memory care priorities, improve resident outcomes, and enhance service delivery.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Mitigation
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local memory care services regulations.
- Partner with regulatory agencies, legal teams, and community leaders to proactively address compliance concerns.
- Develop and maintain audit, monitoring, and reporting mechanisms to mitigate risk.
- Provide guidance and training to regional and community-based teams on compliance and risk management protocols.
Dementia-Specific Training & Education
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive dementia training program for all memory care team members.
- Ensure best practices in dementia care, behavioral interventions, and communication strategies are implemented consistently across communities.
- Provide education and resources to enhance the knowledge and competency of memory care associates.
Behavioral & Psychosocial Support
- Guide communities in implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions to support residents with cognitive impairment.
- Analyze incident data and trends to develop targeted strategies for reducing behavioral incidents and enhancing resident well-being.
- Support community teams in resident engagement and meaningful activity programming.
Onboarding & Professional Development
- Coordinate onboarding programs for all memory care leadership positions, ensuring new hires receive comprehensive orientation and training.
- Partner with training teams to develop specialized memory care education programs and competency assessments.
- Support ongoing professional development initiatives for memory care leaders.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with operations, sales, and accounting teams to support sustainable growth and operational excellence.
- Serve as a liaison between the organization, ownership groups, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with memory care goals.
- Engage with healthcare partners, industry groups, and professional organizations to stay current with best practices and emerging trends in memory care.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
Education:
- A degree in Nursing, Social Work, or a health-related field is required.
- A Master's degree in healthcare administration, gerontology, or a related field is preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- At least five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in memory care, assisted living, or another healthcare-related setting.
- Previous multi-site/regional experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing memory care services.
- Proven experience in developing and executing dementia care programs, quality assurance, and compliance initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multi-site memory care teams.
- Strong background in strategic planning, data-driven decision-making, and performance measurement.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Special requirements:
- Ability to travel to Cogir communities across 11 states, up to 70% of the time.
