Senior Java Developer
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Java Developer who will be responsible for designing and architecting high-performance Java-based enterprise systems. They work closely with business stakeholders’ software developers and IT teams to create scalable, secure and efficient solutions. This role involves defining architecture guidelines ensuring adherence to best practices and making technology decisions to align with long-term business objectives.
You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Location: New Jersey - NJ or NYC, NY
*Candidate is required to be in the office 3 days a week*
Roles/ Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and high-performance Java 17 applications using advanced Java technologies and frameworks.
- Develop and manage microservices using Spring Boot 3.5.
- Build and deploy containerized applications using Docker in a cloud-native environment.
- Implement event-driven architecture and work with Kafka and MQ for real-time messaging and event management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and refactor code to improve performance, scalability, and security.
- Stay up to date with the latest Java frameworks, tools, and cloud technologies.
- Follow the best practices in software development, including testing, code reviews, and documentation.
Required qualifications:
- 6 years of hands-on experience in Java 17 development with a strong understanding of advanced Java concepts.
- Proficiency in building REST, microservices using Spring Boot 3.3.5.
- Hands-on experience with Docker for containerization and working in a cloud-native environment.
- Strong expertise in Kafka and MQ for message queuing and event-driven systems.
- Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with version control tools such as Git and familiarity with Agile methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Experience with JUnit, Mockito, and other testing frameworks.
Other Compensations:

The annual salary for this position is between $68,422K– $114,000K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
