| The Mainframe Modernization Architect will be responsible for designing and implementing strategies to modernize legacy mainframe systems. This role requires a deep understanding of mainframe technologies, cloud computing, and modern software development practices. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully leading mainframe modernization projects and possess strong technical and leadership skills. |
The Role: Fulltime with Cognizant
- Role: Senior Mainframe Developer.
- Location: Pennington NJ.
Roles/Responsibilities:

- Assess existing mainframe environments and identify opportunities for modernization.
- Develop comprehensive modernization strategies and roadmaps.
- Design and architect solutions to migrate mainframe applications to microservices architecture.
- Collaborate closely with the Mainframe Center of Excellence (COE) team to understand the current ecosystem and draw a blueprint for the future.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the modernization process.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and best practices for mainframe modernization.
- Ensure that modernization efforts align with business goals and objectives.
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization of modernized systems.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to mainframe modernization.
- Utilize Generative AI skills to enhance modernization strategies and solutions.
- Assess existing mainframe environments and identify opportunities for modernization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 12 years of experience in mainframe technologies and modernization projects.
- Strong knowledge of mainframe systems, including COBOL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM and JCL.
- Knowledge of Java is a must
- Any prior experience with COBOL to JAVA refactoring tools is a preferred skill
- Generative AI skills are a bonus
Salary and Other Compensation:
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
