We're a cognitive science company on a mission to optimize the measurement of brain health to advance the development of new medicines and to enable earlier clinical insights in healthcare.

That's why we're seeking a Product Owner accountable for managing various products in the Cogstate product portfolio, maximizing the value of the product for the business.

The Product Owner will have a track record of taking accountability for the delivery of exceptional product outcomes, working closely with the Product Manager, Project Manager and Engineering. The Product Owner will have proven experience in understanding, interpreting, and translating product priorities and outcomes, as a 'voice of the business' into technology solutions. The Product Owner will work with the engineering and quality control team to ensure that development processes and outcomes align with the product roadmap and that high-quality products are realized and commercialized. 

The Product Owner will coordinate with the Product Manager or Business SMEs/Stakeholders to create user stories, capture customer feedback, and participate in product demos. The Product Owner will be responsible for understanding and presenting key customer requirements to the team as a prioritized list of product and sprint backlog items, with a track record of working on innovative solutions.

In addition, the Product Owner will have confidence and composure in handling stressful situations – with an ability to communicate calmly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

This role will require extensive written and video interactions with stakeholders, including business leadership, quality assurance, software/technology leadership and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary point of contact with the business to identify product requirements for the engineering team.
  • Responsibility and ownership of defining and prioritizing user requirements, in conjunction with the Business Product Manager/Stakeholder and Project Manager.
  • Communicate with the engineering team to explain the product features, user stories and acceptance criteria to be implemented.
  • Act as a proxy and facilitator on key user requirements for engineering and quality control.
  • Prioritize work items and product backlog, this must be in line with customer vision and goals.
  • The product backlog must be clearly defined, and all the items need to be mentioned elaborately.
  • Prioritize and order the product and sprint backlog in the right manner so that the important tasks are given topmost priority.
  • Evaluate the work done by the engineering team via defined sprint backlog and provide constant feedback.
  • Ensure that the product and sprint backlog is communicated clearly to all team members.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager, liaison and monitor each phase of the product development cycle.
  • At each iteration, be a part of the product development review and suggest any changes or improvements on behalf of the customer.
  • Based on the feedback ensure that the engineering team can then make necessary changes or modifications to the product features.
  • Meet with Product Management on a regular basis, i.e., weekly and/or daily based on priority to ensure alignment of outcomes and scope
  • Conduct regular showcases (every 2 weeks) to keep the business, stakeholders, and other development teams up to date on what has been developed, any key issues and what is planned next
  • Provide updates and maintain centralized records on requirement and backlog status

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (business, scientific or a technical discipline preferred).
  • Agile certification preferred.
  • 2-5 years Product Ownership experience, preferred in HealthTech, software development and regulated environment.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies across disparate geo-locations.
  • Experience in Healthtech, Biotech, clinical trials, and provider healthcare segments a plus.

Skills, Knowledge and Specialist Expertise

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, JIRA, Confluence
  • Experience with scrum, KANBAN, and other Agile delivery techniques
  • Proven ability to successfully manage a full workload across multiple-projects / products independently.
  • Anticipates problems and develops recommendations for management resolution.
  • Highly driven individual who demonstrates initiative and deliver on tight timelines.
  • Strong grasp of software deliverables and timelines, with ability to manage competing priorities - ensuring that all deliverables met, on time (or adequate communication is sent).
  • Ability to assess the inherent risks of a situation, their potential impact on a project and based on this information; with limited support make timely decisions.
  • Strong understanding around regulatory requirements, including internal discussions with Quality Control and Quality Assurance around testing and validation activities.
  • Excellent problem solving/decision making skills

Wage Range

$140,000—$160,000 USD
