Full Job Description
Coherence Learning is in search of dynamic, motivated, and innovative individuals to join our team in providing academic support and mentorship to students working with the company. We have multiple work profiles and are open to working with most individuals with different availabilities however, we prefer to hire the ones who are willing to work for a longer-term. This position can transition to a full-time position with benefits for the right candidate.
Job Description: As an SAT/ACT Reading and Writing Tutor, you’ll be responsible for helping the students to hone their skills by teaching them content and the approach to help them excel on the reading and writing sections of these standardized tests.
Schedules: Each class is 1 hour long. We have a 4-months intense prep course for juniors and seniors with 2 English classes per week. We will need consistent availability during these 4 months of preparation. Some batches run during the entire year.
You will be assigned classes and individuals based on your availability during the week.
General work hours are as follows
Monday-Thursday: 5:00 pm- 9:00 pm
Saturday/Sunday: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
*Some individual tutoring may occur before and/or after these times.
Compensation: Based on experience tutoring SAT Verbal Section
Starting at $25/hr for the candidates with 0 years of SAT Teaching Experience
Compensation based on SAT Teaching Experience
$40/hr for a minimum of 2 years
In-person teaching will be reviewed and the rate can increase based on performance.
Hours per week: Between 8-10 hours per week. Some weeks will be more than 10 hours depending on need.
Generally hours are as follows.
Wed/Thurs: 5 pm-9 pm
Sat/Sun: 9 am-1 pm

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Plan sessions with students based on scores and targeted weak areas in Reading and Writing
- Reviewing college essays for college application
- Assign homework precisely for the purpose of helping students to improve in the weak areas: no busy work!
- Ensure that all approaches and interactions with students to encourage psychological well-being
- Must have reliable transportation.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a BA/BS in English, Social Sciences, or Educational Studies highly encouraged to apply
- Experience taking standardized tests is highly desirable
- Practice SAT assessment required after the initial interview
- Degree in Education with experience teaching High School English with a focus on SAT preparation
Knowledge, Skill Sets, and Qualities:
To be an effective SAT/ACT coach, the candidate should be great at:
- Communicating effectively with students and parents
- Teaching various methods and approaches to help students understand the reading and writing concepts that they’re struggling with as it relates to the SAT/ACT exam
- Reliable, approachable, and punctual
- Ability to problem solve and think critically in different situations
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $45.00 per hour
