Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Product, Technology Development and Program Management [75%]
- The Product Development of new TE cooler based Systems is done on schedule and on budget.
- Product-related technology development projects are conceived, proposed, and promoted that support Coherent strategic technical objectives.
- Evolutionary and revolutionary products and processes are lead and managed, that support customer requirements and Coherent strategic technical and sales objectives.
- Project teams are effectively lead and managed meeting schedule, development and production cost goals.
- Internal modeling/design capabilities are clearly understood including the bounds and limitations of use.
- Application tools (spreadsheets, MathCAD, IcePak, ANSYS, etc.) are developed and utilized, creating value and optimized solutions.
- Phase Gate and QRB processes are effectively utilized to transition new products and processes to the engineering and manufacturing organizations.
- Manufacturing design guidelines are understood, actively reviewed and improvements proposed.
- Work group is represented in special problem-solving sessions addressing complex problems.
- Interact with CTS global Vietnam manufacturing team to transition projects to manufacturing. Includes participation in weekly, evening conference calls with the CTS Vietnam production and R&D teams as needed.
Business Operations/Product Sales [10%]
- Portray a positive image of Coherent to co-workers, external customers, and the general public.
- Externally and internally funded research and/or development program proposals consistent with the company technical direction are supported through the management and successful completion of identified tasks and assigned proposal sections are written.
- Viewed as a lead technical interface for external customers.
- Recognized as a primary design consultant for new product designs or for a particular aspect of technology important to Coherent.
- The appropriate use of TE technology, at the TE cooler level and at the System level, is applied to product development projects.
- Warranty or Quality Returns are analyzed using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone and/or other quality tools to determine root cause. Corrective actions identified, implemented and verified.
- A high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, competency, and quality are demonstrated

Intellectual Property [5%]
- Trade secrets and patent-able products and processes that support strategic technology advancements and markets are actively pursued and documented.
- Complementary and advanced technologies (internal and external) are applied to new products and capabilities.
- Alternate technologies are understood.
- A clear understanding is demonstrated of product performance differences between Coherent and competitor products
- Technology developments are disseminated to other areas of the company via technical reports, presentations and memos.
- Technical support and analyses are provided for marketing, engineering and manufacturing as required.
Personal and Professional Development [10%]
- Actively participate in available training sessions, technical conferences, and workshops. Support and recommend training sessions, conferences, and workshops necessary to maintain technical network and technical knowledge and understanding.
- Publish internal technical reports and regularly review complementary technology publications.
Education & Experience
- BS or higher technical degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- 5 years applicable experience in thermal management and/or thermoelectric assemblies.
Skills
- Ability to analyze heat transfer problems.
- Proficient computer skills, including SolidWorks, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Email, and internet access.
- ANSYS Mechanical or similar FEA modeling experience required. Icepak, Fluent and Thermoelectric experience a plus.
- Ability to interpret and appropriately specify GD&T dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical components and PCB/PWB construction.
- Able to interpret basic electrical schematics, with an understanding of common components (diodes, resistors, mosfets, etc.) and series/parallel circuits.
- Understands design and fabrication limitations of CNC machining and sheet metal processes.
- Basic statistical analysis knowledge (normal distribution, standard deviation, etc.) Use of Minitab or other statistics software a plus.
- Ability to work under direct supervision operating from broad concepts and transform these concepts into concrete program action items/plans.
- Ability to solve problems in a timely and proficient manner.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Prior experience with effectively communicating complex technical concepts to organization team members and external technical contacts.
- Ability to anticipate and handle multiple programs and priorities.
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
Working Conditions
Full time, onsite, 5 days per week. Normal office working conditions with occasional exposure to noise, dust, heat, etc. when working in a lab or production area.
Physical Requirements
Required to wear PPE (including finger cots/gloves, safety glass/shields) when working in lab or production area.
Occasional lifting not to exceed 25lbs.
Safety Requirements
