Job Description
The Staff Process Engineer will sustain and improve manufacturing processes for semiconductor components produced from advanced ceramic materials. The candidate will be responsible for learning and performing lapping, interferometry, and analyzing results to determine corrective actions on the lap process. Additionally, this role will drive process improvements, enhance production efficiency, and implement quality control measures. The candidate will also take ownership of all manufacturing equipment in the lapping area, ensuring work instructions are updated for all processes, and maintaining the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for all product lines in the lapping area.

Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Learn and perform lapping processes to achieve required surface specifications.
- Learn and perform interferometry to measure surface characteristics and identify defects.
- Analyze interferometry data to assess process performance and determine corrective actions for lapping operations.
- Take responsibility for all manufacturing equipment in the lapping area, ensuring proper functionality and maintenance.
- Ensure work instructions are up to date for all lapping processes.
- Ensure the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is updated for all lapping processes and product lines.
- Develop and implement improved manufacturing methods to enhance output and quality.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new materials processing and inspection equipment.
- Participate in Lean/Kaizen events to improve process flow, reduce cycle time, and enhance quality.
- Collaborate with vendors to determine product specifications and procure necessary equipment.
- Conduct trials and experiments to validate process improvements.
- Document process improvements, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Support production by troubleshooting process issues and optimizing process parameters.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing data using statistical process control (SPC) tools.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, and other relevant quality and environmental management standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Physics, Materials Science, or Mechanical/Chemical Engineering preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of process engineering experience in a similar industry.
- Experience with Lean/Kaizen or Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
- Hands-on experience with materials processing, including lapping and interferometry.
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating interferometry data and identifying process corrections.
- Experience with materials characterization tools (microscopy, chemistry, structural properties, thermal properties, etc.).
- Familiarity with process control and inspection equipment (CMM, hand tools, visual tools, etc.).
- Working knowledge of design, inspection, and process control software (CAD, CMM, PLC, SPC, MiniTab, DoE).
- Excellent problem-solving skills using methodologies such as 8D and fishbone analysis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration across teams.
- Ability to work independently and take a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
- Work will take place in primarily in manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to industrial equipment, including lapping machines and interferometers.
- Onsite - no remote work
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Must be able to stand, bend, squat, and walk within the facility.
- Ability to work on uneven and slippery surfaces.
