POSITION SUMMARY:
The Collection Technician/Phlebotomist is responsible for accurately collecting, handling, and processing all specimens as well as the preparation for specimen collection including documentation and maintenance of all specimen logs and files. The Collection Technician performs collection/phlebotomy duties in Mangum Regional Medical Center client offices and will additionally serve as a resource to the client by providing specimen information as requested by the client. The Collection Technician/Phlebotomist adheres to departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control and assurance, safety and patient rights.

Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, (“The Unity Bill”) this position is considered a “Safety-sensitive position. “Safety-sensitive” is defined to include “any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.” Employees working in “safety-sensitive” roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.
SUPERVISOR: Clinic Office Manager
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all aspects of specimen collection and preparation for specimen collection.
- Correctly labels and identifies specimen containers.
- Completion and processing of documentation including but not limited to requisitions.
- Accurately enters all required information on client specific requisition forms.
- Packaging and shipment of all specimens.
- Performs clerical duties including operating a computer, maintaining files and logs associated with specimen collection, and accessing and compiling data and reports as required.
- Understands and follows all laboratory safety practices including but not limited to: infection control and OSHA. Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines; adheres to all Patient Rights and Laboratory Safety Policies.
- Orders supplies and maintains supplies and materials inventory.
- Collects data, records, reports and other information and submits as requested or required.
- Provides client with specimen collection information, documentation and reports as requested.
- Recognizes when information on requisitions is ambiguous and knows and follows corrective actions.
- Recognizes personal limitations and seeks guidance from management when needed.
- And participates in departmental training programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by manager, including but not limited to, housekeeping, reception duties, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Phlebotomy training and experience required.
- Must be able to perform venipunctures on all types of patients, and all age ranges from pediatric to geriatric.
- Ability to project a professional image.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.
