General Position Summary: The Project Engineer is responsible for assisting the Project Manager with overseeing the construction process. This position may interact on a single large project or multiple small to mid-sized projects. The position requires strong time management, communication, and client service skills. Individuals must communicate with subcontractors representing COLAS values while maintaining the project budget and timeframe. In the performance of this function, the PE is responsible to protect and promote the interest of both the business and client in all matters as well as demonstrate the personal characteristics of a mid-level leader. Position may assist with preconstruction efforts related to subcontractor outreach, schedule, logistics, and constructability. PE should be able to interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons.
General Responsibilities:
Job Conditions: This position generally requires 8-10 hours a day. The workweek is Monday-Friday. This position requires the incumbent to work in a job trailer on a construction job site or in the Colas Construction main office, depending on the project. This position requires the following; sitting, walking, standing, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, hearing, visual acuity, and utilization of a computer and office equipment. This person must be physically capable of reviewing a job site multiple times daily. The working environments consist of exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, chemicals, odors, fumes, outdoor weather, and indoor and climate-controlled settings.

General Responsibilities:
- Participate and meaningfully contribute to monthly cost report meetings
- Successfully adhere to the project controls procedures to include monthly cost control, pay requests and cost reporting
- Effective expediting of material deliveries
- Act as a liaison between the owner, architects, subcontractors, and the company
- Coordinate information and documentation from owners and architects to the subcontractors
- Process subcontractor submittals – route, review, and approve
- Establish handling procedures for electronic documents, including Request for Information (RFI) and correspondence – create, assess, route, and distribute
- Obtain and maintain all necessary construction permits and work with the Project Manager for fee payments or recurring permit expenses
- Develop business through identifying client needs , identifying COLAS opportunity matches, and communicating the value and differentiation of COLAS to prospective clients
- Proactively review customer feedback, build a customer centric mentality within teams, and demonstrate knowledge of different market sectors and delivery systems to ensure positive customer relations
- Communicate Effectively - Listen to understand and clearly convey information in all forms based on the audience to ensure shared meaning of the message

- Assist in preconstruction efforts, subcontractor outreach
- Implement preconstruction quality plan
- Meet with city officials, inspectors, etc., as needed
- Perform miscellaneous office duties (maintain copiers, make copies, etc.)
- Proven capability to establish specific measurable, attainable performance goals and hold others accountable for achieving them
- Demonstrated ability to build active team participation, team trust and strengthen positive interactions
- Ability to articulate financial knowledge and customer satisfaction awareness of how the company makes a profit
- Demonstrated ability to adapt personal communication style to suit the target audience and situation including highly effective presentations, clear and concise writing on complex and sensitive topics, and understanding through paraphrasing and use of relevant examples
- OSHA 10 Certified preferred, with a goal of OSHA 30 certification within a year of hire date
- Review construction documents for completeness and constructability
- Enhanced blueprint reading and computer skills in Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Zoom, Revit and Assemble
- Basic skills in Foundation Accounting (or similar construction accounting program)
- Financial Management familiarity
- Ability to always maintain discretion and confidentiality
- Dependability
- BS or MS degree in – Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of six years related construction experience working on $20-$50M construction project
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possess a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Ability to interpret and communicate COLAS policies
- Current driver’s license
- Occasional sitting
- Occasional standing
- The occasional repetitive motion of hands/wrists
- The position often reports to a jobsite trailer, which may require the ability to navigate course terrain
- Rare lifting of up to 20 pounds
