The Colby Program for Academic Success & Transformative Learning (PASTL) was established in the fall of 2023 with strong support from the Office of the Provost and the Dean of Students. PASTL strives to address teaching and learning needs at Colby and to be a leader in national conversations about innovative teaching and learning at small, liberal arts colleges. The mission of PASTL is to enhance intellectual engagement across the liberal arts curriculum through programs and services that promote collaboration and reflective practices with the goals of supporting effective teaching and learning for faculty and students. The work of Program for Academic Success and Transformative Learning is grounded in the literature and scholarship on effective teaching and learning, informed by the experience of the PASTL staff, enhanced through experiences with Colby faculty and students, and enriched through collaborative relationships across the college that support teaching and learning at Colby.
Reporting to the associate provost for teaching and learning, the McVey Associate Director of Data Literacy Programming is responsible for the development and implementation of student learning support structures and resources to enhance statistical, graphical, and other aspects of data literacy skills across the Colby curriculum, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This position is gift-funded, and the continuation of this position is contingent on gift funding availability.

- The development of workshops, course-connected modules, and resources for students regarding data literacy learning, and other related skills.
- Required to teach one course per year at the introductory level related to statistical literacy and oversee a team of undergraduate peer learning assistants.
- Develop effective working relationships with members of an increasingly diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni.
- Research and prepare materials for the PASTL Data Literacy programming, presentations, and other materials.
- Oversee and manage the budgets for the Data Literacy programming.
- Develop and manage tools for assessing the effectiveness of PASTL Data Literacy programming initiatives.
- Manage a social media presence and activities surrounding the PASTL Data Literacy initiatives.
- Prepare financial reports with analysis, conclusions, and recommendations to implement more effective administrative/operational strategies.
- Contribute to the overall success and advancement of the data literacy programming and the functional areas by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and/or experience:
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in statistics, data science, or related field
- Data analysis experience/expertise
- Faculty development experience (working with faculty on teaching)
- Familiarity with a wide range of teaching frameworks and strategies
- Demonstrated record of collaboration, ideally across various professional and scholarly fields
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Creative approaches to problem solving
- Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
- Genuine interest in engaging undergraduate students as well as scholars, curators, and artists
- Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
- Outstanding human relations and leadership skills
- Skilled decision-maker, with transparency in decision-making and management

- This position works in an industrial plant environment, both indoors and outdoors.
- The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.
